It was a beautiful afternoon in Westerly Hill Village. Xander had just got his report card back from school and he wasn't doing so well. He got a D+ in Math, a C in Science, a -D in History, a A+ in English, and a F in Gym. He was so mad at himself. His dad only cares about him getting a football scholarship to Harvard, but Xander wants to be a writer. He got a F in Gym he just isn't good at sports. He tried football once and he broke his wrist trying to run away from some guy trying to tackle him. Then he tried baseball and he got a concussion from a line drive right to his eyebrow. Then he tried soccer and broke his ankle. He was one of the only nerds at Westerly Hill High. That was the last day of his Sophomore year. Next year was going to be the roughest because his dad is going to try to get him to join some other sport in time for college. Xander just wants to be a writer maybe even an English teacher. He got an A+ in English all year. He got a 100% on all of his b ctests. He even got an award for being the best English student in all of the school today. He just wants to be a normal kid with a supportive dad. He just doesn't want to be a jock. He wants to be an information seeker. He just wishes his dad would support him more.
Xander was riding his bike home from school, when he remembered he needed to pick up his summer book stack from the library. He hooked a u-turn and headed off to the library. As he was riding he felt his blonde hair prickle in the wind and his red sweater vest and black caches that are part of his school uniform rustle as he rode by Marty's Deli. His crystal blue eyes saw the library and hooked a left into the library parking lot. As he locked his bike in Thur last bike slot in the bike rack, he checked over his list and remembered a book that Mr. Anderson, the English teacher, recommended and put it on his 50 book list.
When he got in the library there was a young boy and a girl his age. He recognized her from school. He started with the first book. He read softly to him self, "Call To The Wild by Stephanie Weelizttiy." He found t then u then w. Wa, Wd, ahh We. He felt a warm, slight bump and then like a lightning bolt it flung away. He couldn't figure out what it was until he looked up from the books. It was the girl from school. He never looked closely at her before now. Her dark chocolate brown hair, her soft hazel brown eyes, and her gorgeous light freckles all over her beautiful, smooth, glasses covered face. He was shocked with beauty. He whispered, "Oh, I am so sorry I was just looking for "Call To The Wild by Stephanie Weelizttiy." The girl giggled.
She asked, " Do you always say the title and author when naming a book or was it just to show why you were in this section of the library?" Xander gulped with embarrassment and amazement at her smarts.
Xander stuttered, " Uh- Um- I don't-." The girl giggled again.
"It's ok, I do the same thing. I was also looking for that book," she explained. Xander smiled at her. He quickly realized he was leaning on the book and grabbed it for her.
He held it out for her and stuttered, " Uh-Um- Here you had your hand on it first, you can take it. I have plenty of other books on my 50 book list to last me the summer. I insist you take it. The girl smiled.
"Thanks, I have a long list too. I have a goal of reading 200 books this summer. I always increase the amount of books I read each summer by 50. Oh, I never caught your name," she explained.
"Oh- Um- Xander," Xander stuttered, again.
"Salutations Xander, my name is Monica. I have seen you around school, but your nose is always in a book. I have wanted to talk to you. I thought maybe we could be nerd friends," Monica explained.
"I think we could be more than friends. I think we could be soul mates. The first time my hand touched you I felt a zing. I thought it was just from the carpet, but now I think it was from you. I think you and I are meant to be together," Xander explained passionately. Monica frowned. She looked at him with sad eyes and turned away.
"We just met Xander, how could you think that? I just thought we could be friends, not soulmates. I guess I never should have even talked to you," Monica said as she started to walk away. Xander looked at her with sad eyes.
"Well if you decide to change your mind or if you just want to talk, here's my number," Xander said as he handed his number to Monica as he walked over to the Non-Fiction section. When he was done finding all of his books, he got a call as he was walking out of the library. OMG it was Monica. Ok, Ok, Ok, I will wait three rings to make it sound not desperate and then I will answer with 'Oh hey Monica, how's it going'. Ok, here we go. He hits the answer button and says "Oh he-," Xander got interrupted by some guy.
"Hello? Is this Xander? I am Steve a Paramedic for Westerly Hill Village Hospital, your friend Monica has had a fall and is being rushed to the hospital l. She asked for you to be called and asked for you to come to the hospital. Are you going to come or not?," Steve asked.
