I woke up in the middle of night seeing my reflection in the mirror across from my bed, It's dark, I can't see much but the moonlight shines into the room. I see myself now, My face is pale white and so as the rest of my body.
I felt odd, my throat feels tight and dry. My lips are chapped. My head hurts and aches. I don't know where am I, I don't know whom room is this nor whom bed is this. My body sores but I don't know why, I got up from the bed and walked towards the mirror. I'm still in the same clothes I wore this morning to school but apart from that, my surrounding is completely different.
I heard noises from downstairs, I then rushed to the door, hoping that I'm not locked inside this room, I was not. When I got to the stairs, it was wooden and very dusty like no one had cared enough to dust it off. I continued down the stairs and into the kitchen.
" Hello? Is there anyone here!" I said quietly cause my throat hurts.
" Oh, hello! You finally woke up" A voice coming from the living room.
The voice sounded like a teenage girl about my age, 16. She walks toward me. My vision was a bit blurry but I can tell that she has a beautiful, wavy, dark brown hair. She wore a white T-Shirt and a black sweatpants. Her smile is very big and welcoming.
"Hi, Where am I and What's ur name?" I said politely.
"My name is Amber. I found you on the sidewalk near my house, people were walking pass you but no one cared enough to stop and help you. I figure I would help you and allow you to sleep in my house." She said calmly.
I wonder how did I get here in the first place and what am I suppose to do to get back. I looked outside the window, there were broken street lights, couple of them were twitching but two were working fine. I couldn't recognize this neighborhood.
She poured a cup of tea then walks toward me, handing me the cup of tea. I thanked her and drink it slowly as I continued to ask her.
" Do you live alone? Who bedroom was that? What is this neighborhood? Do you know anyone that can help me? " I said desperately.
" Yes, I do live alone. The bedroom you were sleeping in was my brother's bedroom. He left about a week ago to help fight the chaos again our enemy. This is where I grew up. My parents died and they left this house for me and my brother. I'm afraid I can't help you, I'm also leaving tomorrow morning at 5am to join my brother. I don't want to leave you alone here so you might as well come and join me tomorrow morning. It will be a lot to handle, you must go through physical and mental training to prepare for the war. My brother will be training us. I left some clothes in the shower for you, It's just to the right of you. Go get ready and come to my room, I'll help you prepare for tomorrow." She said.
"Okay, thank you so much. I really mean it, I shall go get ready and see you upstairs as soon as possible." I said and gave a big smile as she gave me a smile back.
I got to the bathroom, I washed my face and stared at my own reflection on the mirror of the sink. I looked less pale, it's probably because of the tea. I felt a bit scared to join the army but I am also looking forward to it.
"Don't worry too much, It will be fine. You don't have a choice anyway, Let's just go with the flow." I said to my reflection in the mirror.
I undressed an got into the shower, the cold water against my body makes me shiver. I washed my hair and body cleanly and got out of the shower. I put on the clothes she kept for me in the bathroom. I dried my hair and rushed upstair to see her.
"Oh ! You are all done, come here, sit next to me and I shall help you prepare" she said.
I walked up to her and sat next to her. I looked at her closest, I see comfortable clothes. I knew we would get along, I can smell the sense of wood from her closet. I liked it. Most of her clothes are oversized and there weren't much bright color. I liked that too.
We helped each other prepare for tomorrow. It was pretty easy to prepare since there weren't many choices but I liked them. We continued to talked until it's 11pm and we both decided it's about time to sleep so we would have enough sleep for tomorrow.
"I forgot to ask you for your name, Mind if you tell me?" She said.
"It's Laurin." I said, I waved her good bye and went to my room.
When I got back to the room, I couldn't sleep. I stared at the blank ceiling, The sense from this bedsheets smell fresh, I liked it. As I breath in and out, I can tell by body feels a lot better. It doesn't hurts much now, I miss my family. I miss my mom, my dad and my siblings. As I was thinking a tears fall from my eye and down the side of my cheek. It feels cold against the wind outside, I went to sleep before I started breakdown because I didn't want Amber to hear me cry.
