"When will he open his eyes?" A small, high pitched voice woke Leafkit. He grunted, eyes still shut tight.
"When he's ready." A familiar, soothing voice answered.
That's right. When I'm ready, Leafkit thought.

The darkness was oddly comforting, although somewhere in his mind, Leafkit wondered what the outside world looked like.

A longing to open his eyes battled with the darkness. Here he would never see a cat in pain, he wouldn't see anyone die, or have to suffer a slow death.
But he would also never see the forest, or the wonders of camp.
Maybe it's time? But again, the darkness won, and Leafkit drifted into another sleep.

He opened his eyes and found himself in a forest.
My eyes are open! Taking a few moments to adjust to the bright light, Leafkit looked around.

The vast woods circled a beautiful blue lake, under a blanket of blue sky, dotted with fluffy white clouds.
He stood on soft green grass, staring around in wonder.
Wow, he thought. So this is what everything looks like.

Seeing a butterfly, Leafkit tested how fast he could run. He caught up with it easily, pouncing and landing on top of it.
My first piece of prey!
He stood up, expecting to see it on the ground, but he realised it had escaped his paws and growled quietly, annoyed.

Leafkit bounded over to the lake, staring at the crystal clear water.
A small, light brown tabby tom with white paws, a white muzzle leading to his chest and green eyes stared back at him.
"So this is what I look like," he purred.

He sensed movement behind him, and turned around to see a starry she-cat.
"Greetings," she mewed.
"Hello, my name is Leafkit! Why are we here?" Leafkit asked.

"We are here because I need to tell you something important." She replied. "Listen carefully",
Leafkit nodded.
"The petal with the specks of flame and the rain in the running river will lead the birds to flight." She said, not breaking her gaze from Leafkit.
What does that mean? Leafkit thought.

As he opened his small jaw to speak, she started to disappear.
"Wait, don't go! What do you mean?" He asked, rushing forward.
But she had already gone.
