Poets

I was a poet in my words.
I hid the truth in meaningless phrases
Hoping one day you'd understand
That I was fighting with burning blazes.
And you were a poet in your actions.
You hid the truth in your silence still echoing in my head,
In everything you wanted me to see
And never said.

But you never heard what I wanted you to hear
And I never saw what you wanted me to see.
You never heard how much I cared
And I never saw how much you wanted to be free.

'Cause I was a poet in my words;
I always spoke what was in my mind.
I only believed in what you said
Ending up completely blind.
And you were a poet in your actions;
You never spoke what was in your head.
So you never realized that in every single one of my goodnights
I kept this love you dread.

But you never heard what I wanted you to hear
And I never saw what you wanted me to see.
So I decided that it'd be better if I left
And set you free.
