The soft pitter patter of rain soothed my anxiety, my muscles slowly relaxing with my breathing . I peaked up over the large limestone rock we were hiding behind, my hand staying completely intertwined with my friend Stephs'. Our breathing was in sync and rain dribbled down our foreheads. what we seen in front of us, Was not human.. at least not any more. This 'thing' hasn' seen us yet, and we damn well will make sure it doesn't have the chance to. The smell of the decaying flesh invaded my nostrils, and i silently gagged. Trying my hardest not to make a sound, i motioned to steph with my hand. I pointed behind us, the direction back to her house. I slowly tried to stand, my knees popping on the way up. Once i fully stood, i made sure the ' thing ' wasn't looking in my direction. And then i whispered.
"Run"
My hand lifted from my friends, my feet skidding on some damp leaves as i started to run . I ran, ran as fast as i could out of the woods, steph trailing only a foot behind me. And behind her, this monster was following 10 feet behind. My heart was pounding in my ears and my head was spinning, but i tried to focus on the goal in mind to get back home. We finally arrived to the storm drain we climbed into the woods from. The being slowly caught up, now only 5 feet away and we still had to climb up hill to get to the road. I started to panic, i frantically tried to climb, rocks skidding downhill and into the small creek below. Every second i kept looking back making sure steph was still close behind. Suddenly time ran slow, my hearing muffled and my breath was all i could hear. My vision was clouded with fear, steph was grabbed. Her foot being pulled down , and her face petrified with pure terror. Her body slowly scraped down the gravelly hill, slowly getting closer to this monster. Not a second later i leaped. I leaped from the position i was in and landed directly on the rotting corpse. Steph grabbed hold of a sturdy stone and remained in place . I tumbled a few inches down and landed in the creek, the monster landed on a sharp rock which impaled the side of its head killing it.
I lifted my body up slowly untill a sharp pain ran up my arm. My head was foggy and i felt pain everywhere. Vision slowly started to creep back to me and red water was all i could see under me. Steph slid down the side of the small hill and stepped in the water next to me. She kneeled down into the water and lifted my head gently so she could examine me. I let out a sigh of relief knowing she was safe, but started to frantically kick my feet trying to stand up. Was the monster dead? Where is it? Negative thoughts flooded into my mind as i whimpered in pain blood trickling down my forehead. But before i could stand i got shushed by steph.
"Stop! Dont move, its dead. And your hurt pretty badly. I think you popped your shoulder out if socket and you have a huge gash on your forehead. We should sit here for a little bit and calm down before even trying to walk home."
I furrowed my eyebrows, my consciousness slowly fading. Before i got engulfed by darkness I muttered out one word
"..zombies.."
Then it all faded.
