TWO

(Chelsea Matthews: POV)
30 Minutes Later
DCPD Interrogation Room 2

I watch as the billionaire playboy, Donovan Miller enters the dimly lit interrogation room with his lawyer. Of course he is smiling at me and his deep blue eyes stare into mine and for some reason I feel a rush of fear, but quickly swallow it down. If there is one thing I've learned, its that if you let the suspect intimidate you, you've more than likely already lost and by what I've just heard from Emily, there is no way I can let Donovan win this war.

"Can we make this quick?" Donovan asks, as he sits down across from me and his attorney sits down across from Shaw. "I'm a very busy man."

"I'm afraid you won't be going anywhere anytime soon." Shaw remarks, without the slightest hint of fear in his voice.

"What is this about, Detective?" Donovan's attorney asks. Donovan's attorney is Samuel Jenkins, one of the world's best and most expensive defense lawyers because he's never lost a case.

"It's about murder, Mr Jenkins." I answer, staring coldly into Donovan's eyes. "I'd say at least 30 counts of murder and at least one count of attempted rape."

"This is absurd, Miss Matthews." Jenkins retorts angrily." My client is a pillar of the community."

"Then he won't mind answering some simple questions to prove his innocence." I affirm, still looking at Donovan, trying to sense any emotion in his blank face.

"Of course not." Donovan divulges coyly still eyeing me." I have nothing to hide."

Lie.

"Donovan, I strongly suggest you keep quiet." Jenkins suggests.

"It's fine Sammy." Donovan implies, patting his attorney on the shoulder, "These fine people are just doing their jobs. Why they're questioning me about these murders and attempted rape I have no idea."

Lie number two.

"Does the name Emily Darwin ring any bells, Mr. Miller?" I inquire calmly.

For a moment Donovan sits in silence as if he is lost in thought. Finally a smile of recognition spreads across his lips.

"Oh yes I believe I met Miss Darwin last night at the Marriott's charity gala for orphans over seas." Donovan acknowledges. "The poor girl seemed out of place so I chatted with her for a while then she left."

Lie number three.

"So you never met her before the gala or sent her two invitations to the gala?" Shaw questions.

"No Detective I'm afraid not." Donovan declares confidently. "Why do you ask? "

Another lie.

"Someone had two invitations delivered to her along with a very expensive dress and a limo ride for her and her friend to the event." I disclose.

"I assure you Miss Matthews that was not me." Donovan replies without a hint of irritation.

Lie.

"But you spoke with her at the gala and you say she left alone." John relates.

"Exactly right."

Keep it up Donovan. I'm about to catch you in the biggest lie of your life.

"Well what if we told you that Emily has a totally different story to tell?" I question.

Come on Donovan tell me another lie.

For a second Donovan remains silent and then whispers something in Jenkins' ear. Slowly Jenkins nods and Donovan turns back towards me and nods himself.
