Chapter 2

Zayn

After a few seconds the lights come back on, but it’s too late: I’m officially freaked out.

I glance down the hallway. Harry’s backed up against the wall, laptop to his chest, taking deep breaths. Liam and Louis are still by the door, clinging onto each other for dear life. Louis notices their position first and pushes Liam off in disgust.

                “Liam, ugh. Get off me.”

“Hey man, you’re the one who grabbed me.”

“Why do you always make things sound so gay?”

“Instead of arguing,” I say, “maybe we should figure out what exactly is going on.” I step back into my room and turn the Telly on.

Well, I try to at least.

A few seconds later, the other three boys are in here with me. “It won’t go on,” I say through clenched teeth, punching at the controller. “FUCK.” I turn around and throw it at the bed. It bounces off and falls to the floor. We stand there in silence.

“Where’s everyone?” Harry asks again. I shrug my shoulders and stare at the ground, fighting back the building anxiety. “Guys, I’m really worried.”

“I think we all are Harry,” Louis snaps. “Fucking shit man. Just because you’re the ‘sensitive one’ doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t worry too.”

                “I never said you didn’t.”

“Oh but you sure fucking act like it sometimes.”

“JUST STOP!” I scream. “Right now isn’t really the time to argue over these things.” I move past them into the hallway and start checking each room for people. They follow me out and begin helping.

“There’s no one here,” Liam says after we’ve checked all the rooms.

“Yeah, great. Thanks a lot, Captain Obvious,” Louis says.

Harry falls back into the wall and slides down to the floor, laptop still in hand. “This is the weirdest thing that’s ever happened.”

Liam asks, “Even weirder than those girls in your room?”

“Yeah…” Suddenly he jumps up from his position on the ground. “You don’t think this could be our fans?”

I almost laugh. “Mate, that’s ridiculous. I know our fans are a little over the top, but seriously, they’re teenage girls for the most part. I don’t think they could pull anything of this scale off.”

“How did they get in my room in Nashville? How do they get our albums leaked? How do they always know exactly where we are and what we’re doing? I think we’ve been underestimating them this whole time.”

“Haz,” Liam says, putting a hand on his shoulder, “Take a couple deep breaths and calm down. Our fans are good people.”

“Good people?” Louis snorts. “Have you been on twitter lately? Oh wait, you deleted yours to get away from it. Some of them—and you know this Liam—they’re crazy. I don’t put it past them.”
