Chapter One~ The Lost Thistle
Moonie's breathing was hurried as he stumbled through the forest. He couldn't believe his luck. The perfect breakfast of
Prince Joseph of Eulonsway was ruined. Moonie knew the prince would be pleased. If Moonie had to eat the poor boy's diet he sure would be happy. But the king and queen were what made Moonie quail in his boots as he attepmted to find a single dew-encrusted thistle from the woodland.
Today's breakfast for the prince, perscribed by the court physician, was a mushroom soup with thistle points and nasturtium petals. This combination was supposed to help the prince's pale complexion gain some color. Moonie rolled his eyes at the physician's stupidity.
What does a thistle do for a boy's health? he wondered as the castke came into view. Moonie had worked at the castle for ten years, a fourth of his lifespan.
A portly, rough man, Moonie's nickname came from his fascination with astronomy as a boy, and even now. Moonie could have been a soldier to be reckoned with because of his tall bulky frame, but instead was content with his enjoyment of sciences. He ran errands for the physician and others, hoping to be a physician of sorts himself.
The last thing he expected to see as he hurried through the palace gates was a thistle growing on the side of the road. Sighing in relief, he apologized to the unlucky prince in his head and entered the heavy wooden doors of the castle.
