Hey, I'm Chloe. I just moved to Michigan with my family. I live with most of family, meaning my aunt, uncle, cousins, and last but not least mom and dad. I'm the only child, which means I have to be queen when I find my mate. Sadly, I haven't found him yet.

Whenever we pulled in to our new house, my nose picked up the most alluring scent. I was drawn to it, couldn't get enough. I swung the car door open, almost hitting my aunt's car, practically jumping out of the driver's seat.

My family gave me confused looks.

"He's here." I said simply, not showing any emotion. On the inside I was jumping for joy, on the outside I was stone cold. My deepest fear is showing emotion, if I do so, anybody can advantage of that. Vampires have feelings and fears too. Just because we're supposed to cold to the touch, doesn't mean we're killing machines.

It's forbidden to drink human blood, the council only permits us to drink animal blood. That's how our race survives. We can consume normal human food and drinks, but we can't survive without blood.

Most vampire movies and books say vampires are worthless, cruel, hateful, and the spawn of Satan himself. None of it's true. We can go out in sunlight, but still are very pale. Garlic does not compel us and wouldn't anybody die from a steak through the heart.

Vampires can die, but only if our mate does. So no, we don't die from anything else. That's how I know he's out there somewhere, because I'm still alive and he has to be here. I smell him, I've never met him. I just know and I'm sure he could smell my scent too. I mean he has to know I'm here, every vampire can tell when his or her mate his close by.

My mom told me I would know when he was close by.

Vampires each have their own special power. Used for good and evil, only you can decide which one you choose to use it for.

I can read minds and peoples emotions. You will learn my family's along the way.

"Are you serious." My dad asked kinda excited, yet protectively.

"I need to follow it." I said and ran into the woods as fast as I could, which is the speed of light. Our house is isolated from everyone else's. Miles and miles away from mortal life. A place where we can live and truly be us, without worrying if anybody can see us.

We do have super strength, hearing, lightning fast speed. Our eyes do change color, but not all of ours are the same. My eyes are naturally dark brown, almost black and turn a light hazel color. I have dark brown, curly hair that reaches my hips.

I came to a stop at the edge of the woods. I saw a coffee shop/diner. I checked make sure I had my money and phone, walking inside.

My plan is to secretly watch him from another table and let him walk to me.

I walk to the cash register. The intoxicating smell getting stronger every second. I felt a pair of eyes on me and I turned around to only be met with piercing green eyes. He was sitting at a table with a group of mortals.

That's him, but something's not right. I hesitantly turned around when I heard a male voice.

"Welcome to Katy's Place, I'm Joey. Anything I can get you?" He smiled.

"Sure strawberry milkshake and onion rings please."

He nodded "In or out?"

"In. Sit anywhere?" I asked.

He nodded and passed my order to the cook I'm guessing.

I paid and sat in the booth two away from that amazing smell and kinda eavesdropped.

"Do you see that girl over there. She just sat down." A deep male voice said.

"Uh yea what about her." Another male voice said.

"Nothing, I was just wondering." He responded.

"We can only see the back of her head though." A third guy said.

"Miss?" A voice called.

I snapped my head up to see the cashier at the counter motioning me over.

I stood up and walked over. He had my milkshake and onion rings in hand, holding them out to me.

"Thanks."

"Hey, um are you visiting or did you just move here?" He asked.

<<The cashier's mind>>

I'm blowing it. She's so beautiful. Maybe she goes to the highschool I go to. I can't ask her that. It'll seem like I'm prying. Deep breaths Harry, deep breaths. Maybe I can get her number?

Ugh, I'm such a geek. She's not even answering. Maybe I went to far? But I just asked one simple question.

I chuckled slightly "Just moved here, I go to the high school around 5 miles away from here."

He sighed in relief. I looked for a name tag and sure enough his name was Harry.

"Well, Harry it was nice meeting you." I turned around to see 4 guys sitting in a booth staring at me. I started to walk towards my booth that was close to theirs. I sat on the other side so I could see my mates face.

Light brown hair, piercing green eyes, freckles, perfectly chiseled jaw line. Absolutely perfect. He was muscular and had a nice figure, although I could only see the top half.

I looked down at my phone to see multiple texts from my cousin, Ainsley.

Ainsley- Do you see him?

Ainsley- What does he look like?

Ainsley- You gonna talk to him

Ainsley- Oh you must be talking to him right now!

Ainsley- I'll leave you alone.

Ainsley- Sorry Clo.

Me- Details later. I see him, but something's not right. I'll talk to you at home. Be there soon, don't know when.

Ainsley- okey dokey.

I didn't brother texting back, but when I looked up I saw him staring at me. I couldn't help but read his mind.

<Mate's mind>>

Who is she? There's no denying she's beautiful. I have a feeling I know her and that she's special, but I just can't put my finger on it.

One of his friends spoke. "I gotta go, Charolette wants to watch all of the Twilight movies."

My mate replied. "Are you serious? That fiction bullcrap. None of that stuff is real anyways. Some lowlife romantic wrote it and it just so happened to become popular. I don't waist my time with fictional crap like that."

What is he talking about. Oh my god! He's a human. No! That's impossible, he can't be! My mate can't be a mortal. What is the vampire council going to do when they find out. I mean I have to tell them, they'll know what to do. I said to myself.

I walked out leaving a tip on the table. As soon as I entered the woods, away from everyone. I sped home. To tell my family, then go to the council.
