William’s sinster smile alerted everyone in the group as the comfortable silence was broken by Averie’s questioning.
“We all know that smile, what are you thinking?” she asked hesitant to hear the answer. It was as if the whole group held their breath for ages, every once and awhile William would get this idea that would put a twist on their typical Friday night. His smile grew wider before he finally spoke.
“We’re going to old Zydecan hill tonight.” the group exchanged worried glances as William got up from his spot on the floor and slipped on his black skate shoes.
“Uhm.” Arianna hesitated, “It’s supposed to be haunted as fuck.” The others nodded and Cain looked like he was gonna cry.
William rolled his eyes getting annoyed at how childish the group was getting, hell they were all old enough to handle this. Except for Cain, but that wouldn’t stop him from coming along. And, Ryan should be standing up with him trying to convince the rest of them, not on the floor like a coward. After all he was the oldest, so why was William the only one ready to take on this deadly adventure?
He grabbed his Volcom jacket from this closet and threw it on zipping it up, it was chilly out but not to cold. Finally, Ryan spoke up.
“I’m not gonna let you do this alone, bro. I mean it is fucking stupid but you’re my brother man and if you’re down, I’m down.”
Ryan joined William at the coat closet, sliding on his own Volcom jacket, his shoes still on. The both of them peered at the remainder of the group. Arianna glanced at Averie who was looking expectantly at Cain and joined the boys by the closet, she grabbed her Ashland High hoodie and pulled it over her head, putting on her checkered vans. Hesitantly, both Averie and Cain coped the actions of their friends putting on their hoodies and shoes.
Ryan grinned cheekily at William as if expected a reward for somehow telepathically convincing everyone to join them. William scoffed and threw open the door, everyone followed him without a sound. They all climbed into Ryan’s beat up Mustang and the sound of a bubble gum pop song filled the car. Cain groaned just as William switched it to a rock station, currently playing Nirvana. Everyone sighed in content, and Ryan started the treacherous drive to Zydecan hill. The ride there was silent, much like the rest of the night. William’s smirk was evident to Arianna, and it bugged her. She sat in the back with Averie & Cain while William was in the passenger side and Ryan, was well driving.
Once the car eased up the large hill, everyone’s breathing hitched. The hill seemed to continue upwards for miles, at the top was an abandoned house and to the side a rather large graveyard. No one bothered to make a gate, because everyone in town knew no one in their right mind would voluntarily come here. The Mustang was the first car to ever climb the hill since that accident that happened back in the 1800s. Everyone here knew the legend, but no one dared speak of it. Ryan turned the car off, and spoke,
“What’s the plan?” he said this more towards William, hell if anyone else knew.
“Let’s just walk around.” William stated dully, staring out the window.
“Are you fucking crazy?” Arianna said, whispering as if someone might hear her, “We can’t just walk around this place, god knows what’s here.”
“Exactly.” Cain said his voice more confident then even he expected it to be.
Ryan rolled his eyes and flung the car door open, he got out and his vans hit the gravel, his closed the car door with a thud, and went around to the trunk. He took out three flashlights, then reappeared by the passenger side window. He handed one to William, he kept one, and William passed one back to Cain.
“Arianna, you’re with me.” Ryan spoke up, gazing at her through William’s open window. Arianna nodded and got out of the car, rushing to Ryan’s side.
“Averie, you can be with William or Cain.” Averie looked at Cain staring at the floorboards in the car like they were Willy Wonka’s golden tickets. Followed by a quick glance at William who was staring at her through the rearview mirror.
“Actually..” he spoke, “They both should come with me.”
Ryan nodded, and William got out of the car, followed by Averie and Cain.
“Let’s try to stick together.” Arianna said, intertwining her fingers with Ryan’s who gave her a reassuring smile.
The group agreed and they continued up the rest of the hill first towards the graveyard.
