Ruteki was born in Australia as were her brothers, but her ancestry is Polish. When she was 13 her parents put her into an acting school for teenagers, then she got recognised by the producers of 'H20' and 'Pretty little liars'.

"I always got told when i was younger that an Australian actress won't get anywhere in life because the place to be is America, and Americans are the only ones who got a chance at acting." She then continued with "That's when i convinced myself Acting should become more of a hobby. So when I was older, I would continue with my 'real' job, which was studying to become a lawyer. But I promised myself if I ever got booked for a gig then I'll stop studying law and focus on my acting." She then finished her sentence with "But when H20 found me and the first season of PLL and H20 came out i got calls to model for bigger brands. Mind you that was when I first turned 18. And when I reached the age of 20, I was now taking photo shoots for Louis Vuitton and Victorias secret."
