                 ~=Finding Myself=~

Without a second thought, I sped through the hallway to stake out any possible hiding spot. Blinded both by darkness and fear, I stumbled over something and landed hard. I heard a groan that wasn't my own. "Next time you wanna get on top of me Elise, you should at least ask."

Shrugging off his sarcastic comment, I got up and continued on without pause. In nothing but sheer luck, I came across a broom closet nearby. I slipped inside, peering through one of the slits to see when our would be safe to leave.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are. I mean you no harm, I'm simply curious." His feeble attempts to draw me out failed, and input made me want to stay better hidden. I watched I'm horror as emerged from the shadows. One of his pointed ears twitched as his eyes darted towards me.

He looked far more demonic than who I was following earlier. He shared the same pale complection, but everything was almost a complete opposite. His white hair complemented his dark red eyes, sharing the same animalistic slit pupils as I had observed earlier. His black, shadow-like tail whipped menacingly back and forth and the feathers of his wings were like small black daggers. One of his pointed ears twitched as his eyes darted towards me. I held my breath as he swore and walked off. Suddenly, I heard an all too familiar voice, and regretted my decision of running.

"Elise," called his panicked voice. An acidic grin spread across the demons face as my protecter dashed in, wide eyed. "Elise" he spat back, questioningly. "Is a girl all it takes for you to visit nowadays, Lucian?" His sarcastic comment was credited by a distasteful grunt. Lucian, I questioned. And I thought Elise was an uncommon name.

"She's not a girl, brother. She's different. She can see us."

Brother? I struggled to see any similarity between them still.

"A mundane, seeing us?!" He took a more serious tone. "Are you out of your mind?"

I sneezed, instantly regretting my allergies.

The door swung open in from of me. "And what do we have here" the demon mocked, mere inches from my face. I heart stammered as I shrank back in fear. From here, I could see what I had missed. A tattoo like black chain coiled around his throat and extended down each arm, until it braceleted each wrist. It took me a second to notice that it even ran diagonally down his face.  On the back of his right hand was the familiar symbol that Lucian had shown me. His nailes were sharp like black claws, readily able to rip someones throat out. "Give me one good reason not to-"

"Elise," he called, somewhat disappointedly but still relieved. The demon turned around to face his brother. "Well, I guess that's a good reason."

"Lucian" I called, sharing his relief.

He got tense and looked at me strictly. "Never call me that again." His brother laughed maniacally while I was still confused. He justified himself before I could ask why.

"Lucian is the name that Father gave me, and I'd prefer to not be reminded of it. You should call me something else."

I thought for a minute about this. "How about Luke?"

His brother stared at me in spite, but remained silent.

"Luke," he considered. "A biblical name. Father would be extremely displeased,  but then again, that's the point. I like it." I smiled as he began to relax finally.

"You can call me Isaac," replied his demon brother,  still scowling. "I'll be having none of this biblical nonsense."

"Alright" I replied,  noticing his anger.

I my mind wander as I once again grew curious about the chain tattoo that seemed to coil around his whole body. From his neck, it branched off down his back and chest, forming an 'X' on either side. He noticed my curiosity and cocked an eyebrow. "What are you staring at? Surely I'm not that fine a subject." I ignored his joke, and cursed myself for sharing my thoughts out loud. "What's with the chain?" I asked, instantly covering my mouth. He smirked, signaling that I'd most likely not enjoy the answer.

"While I find your incompetence charming, you must be better informed." He continued I'm a more serious tone. "This-" he said, showing his wrist, "Is what you'd call a temptate. A mark that acts as a demon source of power. This specific one is The Chain of Souls, symbolizing my spiritual and mental powers. Though mine is more severe, because I have more of this power than any other demon.

Lucian had his own temptate as well, The Scars of The Beast."

Luke turned his arm over, revealing a series of scars leading up past his shoulder,  and three diagonal scratches on his neck. I had known about the ones on his wrist,  but I thought they were for a more mundane reason. "His powers," Isaac continued, "are more of physical attributes. He can change any attribute about any object at will. To mend, to destroy,  and everything in between."

"To light," I asked sarcastically as Luke nodded. "Told ya you'd find out later."

I grinned, but asked a more serious question. "But why show me all of this? What do you want from me?"

Isaac's eyes grew darker. "What do you think we-"

"What he's trying to say" Luke corrected, elbowing his brother in the ribs, "Is that we need to protect you. Demons are typically the only creatures that could see us, but you don't look like a demon to me. Because of this, we need to protect you, until we can find out what you are,  at least."

So, I might be one of them? No, he said he didn't know what I was. But if I'm not human, than what the Hell am I?
