Sienna’s exclamation is met with complete silence.

Miranda’s eyes widen. I can’t keep a smile off my face. There is a way out. I can get out of here. I will be able to see Brinn again.

Sienna glances worriedly at the both of us, “Are you okay?”

Miranda quickly snaps her mouth shut, “Yes, yes, of course. But if it’s true…it changes everything.  We could finally…”

Miranda begins pacing in the cramped room.

Sienna’s eyes shift over to mine. She gives me a questioning look.

I wave her worries aside.  It would be abnormal if Miranda wasn’t pacing.

Miranda abruptly stops, “Can you tell me the pass code?”

Sienna says, “7250,”

Miranda whips out her Notice, she quickly types the number in.

Miranda addresses Sienna and I, “I’d appreciate it if this didn’t get spread around.  In fact, don’t tell anyone that you know the way out of the Unknown.  They might…do something stupid if they knew. Actually, I know they will do something stupid if they knew the way out of the Unknown.”

Sienna nods, “Of course. It’s not like I’d have a lot of people to tell anyway…”

Miranda crosses her arms, “You’re not making this up, are you?  You have no idea how much trouble we could get in if you aren’t telling the truth.”

Sienna quickly shakes her head, her eyes wide, “No, of course not. I’ve had immunity to the shots as long as I can remember. I was the one who remembered when Canton came running through the halls of the girls’ Complex.”

Miranda’s eyes widen slightly at this.  Sienna doesn’t know it, but she’s just made my story seem a lot more believable.

Miranda asks, “So, you’ve pretty much spent your whole life pretending to have forgotten things like everybody else?”

“It was hard.  I had to be careful what I talked about with my roommates. It was almost a game to me when I was little, trying to figure out what everyone else did and didn’t remember.”

“How did you not get caught when you were little? How did you manage to not say anything that got the Officials’ attention?”

 “I don’t know. I was kind-of a shy, I guess. Maybe, I just got lucky.”

Miranda purses her lips and continues pacing, “So you remember your Profession Test?”

Sienna shudders, “Sadly.”

“Could you tell me about it some time? Nobody remembers their Profession Tests, you’re a first.”

Sienna bites her lip, “I guess, it involves Ecru and…”

Miranda freezes and turns quickly to Sienna, “You met Ecru in your Profession Tests?”

“Yeah, a lot of them.  Piper too.”

Miranda turns her narrowed eyes to me, “You’ve seen the Ecru?  You’ve been in the same room as the Ecru?”

I swallow hard, “Yeah, but…but I don’t remember it at all. The red shot worked for me.”

Sienna asks Miranda, “Do you know any reason behind why I might be immune.  I mean, it’s happened multiple times so it’s not like it was the Officials’ mistake or something.”

Miranda shakes her head. I wonder if she likes Sienna, if she’s even giving Sienna a chance.  Maybe, though, she already doesn’t like or trust Sienna, just because Sienna knew me.
