[next day]

Melanie's pov

I woke up the next day to lightning and thunder. My curtains were slightly blowing since I left my window open a little bit last night. I got up and walked over to my window quickly.

Right when I was about to close it, BOOM. Thunder that nearly shook the house. I jumped and screamed. I slammed my window closed and ran over to my bed, jumping on it and burying my face in the pillows.

I am deathly afraid of both lightning and thunder. America got struck by lightning once, walking home from school in a thunder storm. I was with her too. We weren't afraid of thunderstorms then, but now I am. Afraid that might be me next time. America still isn't, I don't even know how she isn't, because I didn't get any damage done to me, and I'm scared pantless. God is by her side, and I guess she knows that.

But nobody is home. Lamar is with some friends. Maya is being babysat at a babysitters house. My parents are at work, like always. Jeremiah, is most likely out with friends too.

I turned on my phone and went through my contacts. I got to the "j's" and saw the name Justin, from the contact I added last night. I smiled and then heard the boom of the thunder. I gasped and pressed the call button right away. On the third ring it picked up.

"Hello?" I heard the wonderful voice of Justin say.

"Hi, it's Melanie. The girl you met last night."

"Oh, yeah hey. What's up?"

"Oh, nothing-" I said, trying to play it cool.

"I was just wondering if you would want to hang out today. Like, right now." I asked. He chuckled.

"Actually, I'd love to." He said. I was smiling like crazy.

"Okay so I'll see you soon." I said.

"Yeah, see you. Bye." He said. I then pressed the end button on my cell phone. I jumped out of my bed and went into my closet. I picked out a pair of gray sweat pants and a black tank top. I took a five minute shower, and got dressed. I went into one of my jewelry boxes and got put a bunch of bracelets I usually wear when I'm not wearing long sleeves. I brushed through my long hair and put it up in a bun. I put on the bracelets and looked at my reflection in the mirror.

I heard the doorbell ring continuously. I yelled 'come in Justin' so he could hear me from outside. I heard my voice echo from around the house, considering it's a pretty big house for one story. I heard the front door open and close, and footsteps come down the hallway. He knocked on my bedroom door that was slightly open. I giggled. He opened the door all the way revealing him wearing grey sweats, and a grey hoodie. He smiled.

"Hey we are matching!" He said. I smiled and nodded my head. He walked up to me and looked down at me.

"You're not as tall as last night." He chuckled. I smiled again.

"That's the magic of heels." I went over and sat on my bed. Justin followed and sat beside me.

"I'm surprised you remembered me from last night." I said, moving my fingers in circles.

"Why wouldn't I?" He asked. I sighed.

"I mean, I bet thousands of girls came up to you yesterday. Why am I so special?"

"Well the fact that you are the only one who wasn't all slutty and out of their mind, is a reason. You're just different... Better even." He smiled at me. I looked at him and smiled back.

"Thanks. That's means a lot." He nodded.

"So what do you wanna do?" He asked. I shrugged.

"Lazy day?" I asked, and he nodded. I got up and went into the kitchen, and Justin followed, not knowing what to do. I giggled at his cluelessness.

"Go into that room-" I said, pointing to the living room.

"-And to your left, should be a big shelf of movie cases. They are labeled by genres. Pick out a few movies and go back up to my room." He smiled and nodded, following my directions.

I got out a container of popcorn kernels from a cupboard, and plugged in my popcorn popper. I dumped in a lot of the kernels and put the lid on. I switched on the popper and pressed 'pop'. I soon started to hear popping. I got out a big and medium sized purple bowls from the dishwasher, and set them on the counter. I also got out salt, two water bottles and sour patch kids. I learned that Justin's favorite candy is sour patch kids, and mine is too. I poured the sour patch kids in the medium sized bowl.

After the popcorn was popped, I poured it into the bowl and poured salt on it. I shook the bowl a bit and set it down. I once again heard the thunder and saw lightning out of a window near me. I screamed and remembered Justin was right in my room. I covered my mouth and felt arms wrap around me. I  jumped and felt the arms loosen.

"Whoa whoa whoa. It's just me." I heard Justin's voice. I calmed down and felt his arms tighten again.

"So is that why you called me over here? Because you're scared of thunder?" He chuckled. I saw lightning and turned around burying my face in his chest.

"And lightning." I muffled. He chuckled again. I looked up.

"Come on. Let's go into the room. You're safe with me." He said, getting the bowls, and I got the water bottles. Once we got up stairs and into my bedroom, we set everything down and laid down on the bed. He pressed play and the movie started playing. It turned out to be a horror movie I have never seen before.

"Oh my gosh Justin! Why'd you pick this!?!" I scoffed at him. He chuckled.

"I like this movie." He smiled widely. I shook my head and covered myself with the blanket. He did too and put his arm around me. I carefully laid my head down on his shoulder, just to make sure I'm doing it right. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him smile.

Half way through the movie I was scared to death. A jump scare came and I hid my face in Justin's shoulder. I wrapped my arms around his waist.

"Justinnn." I wined. He laughed.

"Come on Melanie it's not that scary." I nodded.

"Well I'm here, so don't worry." He smiled at me, and I smiled back.

I ended up dosing off a little. I was suddenly awakened and sat straight up when Thunder boomed so loud it shook the house.

"Mel it's okay."He rubbed my arm and gripped my waist. For the next two hours we just talked and ate candy.
