The aftermath

I groaned loudly as I threw myself on my bed. What. A. Day.

I had said my farewells to Harry and Olly in the car, as they dropped me off in front of my building. Olly was still acting weird, and hadn’t spoken more than five words the rest of the way home.

I felt kind of bad to leave Harry with him but they are friends right? Maybe he could get him out of his funk.

I rolled over and crawled to the other side of my bed, snatching my charger from my nightstand and plugging it into my phone. I was almost scared to turn it on again, but I don’t even know why. What’s the worst that could happen? I’d probably already seen the worst on Harry’s phone, and I wouldn’t let that bug me. Sticks and stones won’t break my bones. With this newfound confidence I determinately pressed my power button.

It took a while longer to actually start up, but once I punched in my access code I went straight for my settings. Harry had showed me how to turn of notifications from all social media. As my finger moved to the blue icon to open up Twitter, I noticed the small red dot above my messages. 24? Who would want to reach me this bad?

For a split second I thought some of the twitter fans might have somehow got a hold of my number, but that was very unlikely. I tapped the screen again and my inbox opened up. I had two new messages from Marca, one telling me we did good tonight and another telling me to meet her for coffee tomorrow morning. A number I soon recognised to be Lou’s told me how fabulous I looked and that they showed a picture of the three of us on a late night gossip show. One from an old classmate of mine told me we hadn’t talked in ages and we should catch up. I snorted at that. What a coincidence she chose tonight to contact me. People are so transparent. The amusement was soon swiped from my mind however, as I saw the next names in my list. Bee and Jace’s names glared at me from the screen.

-Cass pick up ur phone!-

-Come on, don’t be like this-

-It’s not like I cheated on you!!-

-You r being completely unreasonable Cassie!-

- Fine have it your way. Have a nice life.-

-WHOA CASSIE HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW HARRY STYLES AND DID NOT TELL ME?-

-PICK UP YOUR FUCKING PHONE RIGHT NOW-

-You know I didn’t mean it like that earlier. I was angry-

 -Cass, please-

It went on like that for a while, until she fell silent. Good. I wasn’t in any mood to talk to her. Only three messages remained after that. Jace’s.

-Call me sweetie. You know you are my everything.-

-Seriously? Are you already slutting yourself out?-

-You are making a fool out of yourself. Don’t come crawling back, you little whore.-

Ouch. Even though I couldn’t stand him right now, his words hurt more than any other I had read or heard today.

I had spent a long time with this man, thinking we would grow old together. He was my perfect guy, my rock. But in only 24 hours he had gone from being the most important man in my life, to a man I wish to never lay eyes on again.

Now that all the rush had died down from today, I finally had time to feel. And though I had promised myself not to shed another tear over him, I couldn’t help my eyes from filling up and as a lone tear travelled down my cheek. Now that my barrier I had set earlier had broken, I felt a crushing weight in the pit of my stomach. My heart felt like it was physically broken, not just emotionally. My mind travelled back to the good times we had. The way he was too shy to come up to me at first, the way he nearly spilled his coffee all over me when he finally worked up the courage. A small smile played on my lips when I thought back to our first date, how nervous he was. He just went on and on about the most random things, but I thought he was adorable. The walks on the beach, the picnics in the park, all the cheesy things we had done… They were all history now. How could I not have seen it? I guess I knew deep down, but my love just blinded me. How long had it been going on? How long had he had an… Affair?
