This is it. I thought, blinking away the tears for the fifth time tonight as I zipped my bag shut. I hadn't packed much, just some clothes and enough amount of money I'd made by babysitting my cousin to help me settle somewhere else.

Tonight was my only hope to escape everything, only hope of being happy again. I wasn't going to see them anymore , that's what I'd wanted after what they did. They've already made me lose so much.

It was half past three in the morning, and considering my so called parents, they weren't going to be up for five more hours. I could be long gone till  then, at least I think so.

I silently closed my door and tiptoed across the hallway to the main door. I could still hear my dad snoring in the bedroom upstairs. I glanced at the living room over my shoulder for the last time before leaving. And I was leaving, for good , for ever.

The anticipation of the idea of running away from my house had already made me sweaty.Managing to get out of the main door without getting caught had lifted some of the weight off my shoulders, still , I had yet to get past the squeaky gates. Making as less noise as possible, I got through the gates and completely out of the house.

Every time, in the past , whenever I had thought about running away, I always thought that I would chicken out the last moment. Now I come to think about it , the thought has never crossed my mind even once tonight. The adrenaline rush was too much. This moment was too precious to let go, It was too late to turn back.

I walked to the nearest stop and waited for the bus to arrive. I didn't know where I'd go to,yet. But I had to get away from here, somehow. Anyhow. An elderly woman walked to the stop as well but I couldn't care less as the events of last night replayed in my head and it took all my strength to not break down and cry right there.

"Are you alright dear ? ", a voice beside me said as tried blinking away the tears. Again. I turned to the woman who was looking at me in concern gave her a faint smile reassuring everything was okay. "It's nothing just headache " I told her and turned my head in front. It was almost four in the morning so more people were coming to the stop.

I got up as soon as I saw the four o'clock bus approaching and climbed the bus without really knowing where it leads to.Like I already said. I only need to get away from here. For now.

The bus was thankfully empty so I got a window seat easily.I didn't really have an idea where to go so I just made up my mind to get off at the last stop. That'll be enough to take me far, far away from here for now.

I wasn't afraid of anyone trying to look for me after last night. They'd probably be thankful I ran away and saved them from "further humiliation".

My mind went back to my parents again as I looked at the passing houses from the window. Will I be able to live without them ?? I shook my head. It was too late to have a thought like that

                                       /\/\/\/\/\/\
One year later.

"Emma?"
It took me more than a second to realize that the manager had indeed called my name. A year hadn't been enough to get used to this new name I'd given to myself.

"Yes Sir? " , I responded putting my pen down.

"Can I have a word with you in my office ? ", he asked impatiently, scratching the back of his bald head, and looking at his sweaty forehead and nervous expression, I already knew something was wrong.

For a man in his forties along with being bald,  he sure was attractive. Also, he wasn't your typical arrogant employer who was always ordering his employees around. And the fact that he'd given me this job despite the fact that I didn't have any documents of my academic qualification said a lot about his character .

I closed the cap of my pen and walked out of  my cabin towards his office. The walk to his room seems too long as I've been thinking all the possible situations that resulted in getting me into this situation. I can't think of any. I'd gotten this job after wandering around for a month after I ran away and have been getting more than half of the "employee of the month " awards given ever since .

We finally reach to his office and he sits down on his chair. I wait for him to tell me to do the same. "Sit down Emma",Mr Green said, with the same grim expression his face had since morning. I sit down looking calm as always on the outside when I'm actually hyperventilating on the inside.

The way he's fiddling with his paper stopper ,I can tell that he's deliberately trying to delay to tell me the reason he called me in his office. "Miss Amelia" he finally said, and cue the words that I'd been anticipating this whole time. " I'm going to have to fire you. "
