To fight for freedom is an honor. That's what everyone thinks, knows, and is told. What's is the honor in killing? How can we build a free world on death? These are the questions I ponder. It gives me sorrow to think of the people I've killed for my country, but knowing that my son and his sons will be free lightens my heart that is so heavy.
My heart is heavy with tears. Tears for my black brethren covered in red, for the boys that were so innocent, never to have a peaceful sleep in their bed. To fight for freedom is a horror but it's the one I was willing to endure. To have a bright future for my descendants, to fight was the only door.
Freedom comes and freedom goes,
but oppression always stays.
Wherever humans place their roots
that's were oppression lays.
"The Citizens of each State shall be entitled
to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens
in the several States."
The Constitution says this clearly,
But I'm starting to think nearly
Every
Single
Person
That wrote the founding documentary
had to have been kinda bleary to think that
we would hold their words oh so dearly.
Momma used to tell me how Granddaddy fought for our freedom, she would say this as she would tuck me in. I would look around and wonder what freedom really means, because ever since we got sold in to slavery, towards oppression we have always careened. We wake up every day, and work through our routine, to pray and harvest, to cook, to glean. New slaves would come in, their brains trying to understand the Great Unseen. Why would It let us be taken, and hurt, and work and let people be mean? Maybe It doesn't recognizes us because our labor leaves us so unclean.
Like Cornwallis in Camden,
these white demons shall not control us.
They might have captured us for now,
but only in body and not the soul in us.
With their eyes and hearts as black as coal,
their morals are defiantly not whole.
With their punches we will continue to roll,
But soon
we will
take our toll.
