Friends since childhood, few things got in the way of Amelia St. Claire and Zach Dempsey's friendship. Zach confessing his love for her was one of those few things. Zach blurted it out and then everything moved to fast. She didn't have time to think of a response, because she pushed down every feeling, and convinced herself that she only liked him as a friend. While she didn't reject him, her reaction was enough for him to know that nothing was going to happen in between them.
Hannah Baker's death made it hard for both of them, as just when Amelia needed a shoulder to lean on, Zach seemed far away. Thrust together when all they wanted to do was be farther apart, it seemed clear to Amelia that fate was working against them. Or for them.
