Chapter 7

I'm awoken by a nurse, "I'm sorry to wake you Mrs.Whetherly, but I need to do my morning check up."

I sit up a little bit, but I'm restricted by Miah's arms. "Miah," I shake him, "Miah wake up."

He opens his eyes and sits up when he realizes the nurse needs him to move. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hold you back."

"Oh no you're fine. Those chairs aren't that comfortable anyways." She says and pulls up my file.

"Has the pain worsened?"

I sit up," I am a little more sore than I was last night but nothing different than what I was feeling."

"Okay I'm just going to check your ribs and then the doctor will be in for his morning rounds."

I nod my head and she lifts my gown up. She pushes slightly down on my ribs and I inhale sharply. Miah tries his hardest to keep his eyes adverted but I catch him looking at me.

"You have a scan at 8:00 A.M. this morning. The doctor will be in soon."

I bite back a laugh, "Thank you."

She nods her head and heads out.

I let out a belly laugh and Miah looks at me like I'm insane, "What are you laughing at?" He questions with his face clearly red.

I laugh again, "oh nothing. Not like you looked when she lifted my gown up."

"I did not!" He argues.

"You did too!"

"Rae I didn't look!"

"Just own up to it!" I say and laugh at him again.

"I have nothing to own up to. I was looking at the wall." He says and crosses his arms.

I laugh, "If you say so."

He laughs, "I do."

The doctor walks in, "Good morning Mrs. Whetherly! How are we feeling today?"

"I've never had a doctor so enthusiastic. I am in pain today but I'm doing okay." I say and chuckle a little.

"Well I try to keep myself up so my patients don't feel but so down."

We go quiet for a second as he looks over my file, "I think you may have broken your ribs so we are going to go ahead with the scan. I will see you in an hour!"

"Thank you Dr.Smithe."

"Anytime." He says as he walks out the door.

I yawn a little,"I wish we could have slept longer."

"Me too."

They come in with my breakfast and one for Miah.

Miah looks up at the lady,"I'm not a patient."

"We know. But In these situations we provide meals for who is staying with them."

"Oh well thank you. "

"You're very welcome sir"

I shrug my shoulders and look at what they brought us. "Not to bad huh?"

"Not at all."

I move over in the bed, "Come sit with me and eat before I have to go down."

Miah chuckles and sits with me, "Well are we going to talk about where you are going after you get out of here?"

I swallow, "I can get a place. I've got a job and all. I will figure it out."

"Rae. You can't live by yourself."

"Yes I can. I will be fine."

"No. You're coming to live with me."

"Miah I'm not barging into your house. That's too much to ask. "

"It certainly isn't. You can come live with us RaeLynn. We would be glad to have you." His mother says sitting her purse down.

I sit, shocked, "Mrs.Livingston that is very kind of you, but I can't barge in on your family like that."

"You wouldn't. You're just as much part of the family as any of us."

My eyes fill up with tears once again, "Are you guys sure? I wouldn't want to be a bother."

"We are sure Rae. Please. Come stay with us." Miah says and hugs me.

"Thank you so much. I don't know if I could get through this without you guys."

Miah embraces me again and Mrs.Livingston smiles.

I sigh in relief, and think to myself, "What would I do without them in my life?"
