CHAPTER 1: GOING STRANGE
It was a sunny Sunday when my alarm clock rang. I was still sleepy so I hit the snooze button quickly and continued to sleep. I had nothing much to do since it was sunday although i still have to finish my assignments due on Monday and that was for tomorrow. When I woke up to look at the time, I was shocked to find myself sleeping on the floor, well I do move while sleeping sometimes. The time was 11: 42 A.M and It was fine with me waking up on that time but the only problem was i skipped my breakfast because my mom didn't wake me up.
"Mom!" I called lazily.
I waited for her to answer but i heard nothing but the chirping sound of the birds. The sun was now covered by the clouds making my room dark and cold. I went down to the kitchen to find my mother, because my mother is usually in the kitchen at this kind of time. When i got there i was surprised that she wasn't there. I was confused and thought to myself where she went to. But i didn't mind that , so i began to turn on the television to watch my favorite noon time show. I was sitted on the couch facing the television, the smell of the air smelled like beef and it made me hungry since i didn't eat breakfast. I always hate the noise outside made by trucks, cars and other vehicles, i couldn't listen to the televison well. I went to the kitchen again to eat. What i saw in the kitchen is the beef, so it was true that my mom was cooking beef. I ate it with delight, it was cooked perfectly that it tasted so delicious. I almost ate the whole platter when my mom arrived, exhausted, sweating and tired.
"Where have you been mom?" I asked noticing that she had brought something weird.
I looked closely at it, and it was an old bag with a glowing thing inside of it. I wondered what was inside of it. My mom was so exhausted to answer my question, so i held her a glass of water and guided her to sit on the couch. Her breathing was heavy and i could see through her eyes that she was sort of scared. I knew that she had been running going home and used up her adrenaline. But what happened to her, was someone chasing her? I looked at outside the window to see what was going on. But everything was seemed normal and peaceful, the birds are still chirping, cars honking, and people walking.
I turned facing my mom and giving her the worried look seeking for any answers to what was going on. I guess my mom could speak now. She was calm and better than she used to be when she got home.
"I dont know if you're going to believe me but someone - some-.." she choked at that moment. I stood up to get another glass of water but my mom held my hands quickly.
"Come with me, we have do not have enough time left" she said in a shaky voice with her eyes wide open, ready to devour me with her look.
Im not usually scared with my mom but what she did was scary enough that it made me terrified. I was really confused on what was going on with her. I have known my mom for 14 years although I'm 17 years old. I had no memories of my childhood when i was 3 years old. But she only acted like this for the first time.I know my mom is not crazy so there must be something going on.
She dragged me, making me go with her. Together we went to the backyard scared, confused, and didn't know what to do. I didn't ask any questions to my mom because i knew that it wasn't the right time. I just followed her because i knew that it was the right choice and we had nothing to do anymore. My mind kept thinking while we were running. Maybe there was someone chasing my mom and he was going to kill her.
I kept on running until my mom got exhausted. Im an athletic person so I was just fine. I grabbed her arm and put it around me and carried her away. I took a glance on the old bag she had been holding since she got home. I wondered where she got that old bag. It was so old that it smelled like dirt and dead wood. It has a fainted glow in it, a yellow light shining from the inside. I could feel the coldness of the thing inside the old bag as I struggle to carry my mom. I thought about calling my father to ask for help. My mom was getting heavy and heavier, i couldnt last any longer. I guessed it was alright for us to rest for a while under the mango tree. It happened so fast I didn't remember that we jumped over our fence and reached the hills. We almost travelled a total distance of 1 kilometer. Woah! I didn't know adrenaline could do so much help. We were so unlucky that we left our phones in the house. My dad was working in a big company, he was the secretary of his boss. I knew he had that good talent to keep important records.
She fell asleep on my shoulders and i thought that we are now safe because we walked far enough. I could tell that she was very exhausted from the look of her face and her breathing. I didn't know where we were going, ao i couldn't proceed on getting away. Im also tired and decided to close my eyes for just a minute. I knew it wouldn't take long for bad things to happen but then suddenly i couldn't feel the breeze anymore and i instantly fell asleep. It didn't take long for me to wake up because it has gotten cold and i was shivering. My mom was also shivering but she was asleep, i could see the pain in her eyes. I tried to cover her with my body and then in the wall of cold darkness, a dim light suddenly appeared and was getting close to us. The light was getting bright until a shadowy form appeared right before my eyes. I was too tired to react on what was coming.
"Woah! You there." said the mysterious guy who came towards us.
I released i sigh of relief when i heard him.
"Help us.." I blurted.
The mysterious guy didn't think twice and acted immediately. As he was helping me get my mom get up, i could see his dark face hiding in the shadow.
"My house is not far from here. You can get some rest there for your safety." he said in a worried way.
I didn't have any negative thoughts on him because i knew i had nothing more to do but to accept help. And so, we both carried my mom.
I could feel my legs weakening and trembling. I could not walk any further.
"We are getting near" the mysterious man said to me.
As soon as he said that, it gave me a little energy to continue on walking. We arrived at his home safely. I could still feel the coldness of the air from the outside. My mom was still sleeping soundly and maybe she was very tired from all that running.
"You can sleep here in the couch with your mother. I'll go tell my wife that i have visitors" said the man.
I laid my mom in the couch and i just sat there thinking of the things that happened. The thought of it made me think of my dad. "Maybe dad is looking for us right now." i whispered to my mom that was sleeping.
"Ohh.. so it's them" sounded the woman from behind.
"Well, hello young man. You are free to rest in our small place. Please excuse our house" she said politely.
"Thank you miss and thank you also mister for saving us and bringing us safely here. We owe you our lives" i said as happily as i could.
