It all began with five girls. These five girls had bonded over their love of five particular boys. Regardless of how they met, they had now all become completely inseparable. The girls spent every minute together; at school, in between classes, weekends and during holidays. They each contributed their individual personalities to the group dynamic. They all played very different roles in their friendship set, so much so that their relationship was extremely reminiscent of a certain all boy-band's.

Tia was the first of the five friends with her dark curly hair and gentle blue eyes. She played the role of the comforter. She was the sweetest and most kind-hearted girl you'd ever meet in your life. You could count on her to always be caring, considerate and supportive one hundred percent of the time. She was the girl you could turn to during anything although she was known to be a little forgetful at times. Tia really was just a genuinely selfless and devoted person.

Jade was difficult to put into words. She was the strangest person you'd ever come across. Her love of acting and dramatic arts seemed to only encourage her hyperactivity and boundless amounts of energy. She had dyed dark-red hair and hazel eyes. She had a tendency to scream out random unrelated things, talk too much and fall into fits of laughter. She was loud and almost uncomfortably outgoing. She exaggerated everything with bizarre voices and hand gestures. She had an affinity for being spontaneous and restless.

Caitlin served as the groups’ happiness booster. She was exceedingly charismatic; there was always a smile on her face and she was radiantly optimistic. She was quite short in stature with beautiful blonde hair and bright green eyes. Caitlin was outstandingly friendly, approachable and full of comfortable jokes. You’d rarely see her without a smile on her face. She was always sunny, charming and calm. The group adored having her around because of the luminous presence she contributed to their atmosphere.

Kaisu was definitely the most melodic of the group. She was constantly singing, dancing and playing her music. She had a beautiful voice and looks to match; with her long brunette hair that fell well down her back and her pretty features. She always liked to look good, a keen-shopper and always dressed nicely. She was probably also the most balanced and grounded of the group. She liked to think of things from a bigger perspective and always thought forward to the future.

Nelly was the final addition to the group. She had brown wavy hair and bright, sincere eyes. When you first encountered her, she would be incredibly shy. She rarely opened up unless it was around her tight-knit group. When she was with people she was comfortable with, she’d be more willing to be open with her thoughts and talk more frequently. The group all appreciated her level-headedness and observance though. She was also very generous and pleasant. And so despite the wide range of contradictory dispositions in their friendship circle, they all got along extremely well. And they all had one very important thing in common… Their love of One Direction.

And so when Tia called everyone to an emergency meeting at her place one afternoon, all five of them went there automatically. Once they had arrived, they assembled around a coffee table in Tia’s house and began sipping various beverages that varied from apple juice to milkshakes. They made a circle formation around the table and Tia waited until they had all settled before she started to speak.

“So why are we here?” Caitlin piped up finally. “Nothing’s wrong is it?”

“You did kind of just call us here without telling us anything,” Kaisu added.

“Be patient,” Tia laughed warmly regarding the entire group tolerantly. She’d grown used to her friend’s antics and she wanted to drag out her news as long as possible.

“You know how bad I am at being patient!” Jade exclaimed playing with her red ponytail with one hand and holding her drink with the other.

“Please tell us?” Nelly asked biting back a smile.

“All right…” Tia began slowly, folding her hands in her lap. “As we’re all aware… The boys’ London concert is going to be held tomorrow night. It’s a completely sold out crowd and-“

“Ugh. Don’t remind me,” Kaisu mumbled. “We tried so hard to get tickets but they were gone in ten seconds”. The rest of the group nodded miserably, muttering agreements.

“Let me finish!” Tia insisted, talking over the top of them now. They fell silent again eagerly awaiting what she had to say. “Well, what you didn’t know is…”

“Hurry up!” Jade beamed, growing even more impatient.

“I entered this competition a few months ago for Backstage passes” Tia continued.

“Oh my gosh,” Caitlin closed her eyes breathlessly. “Please tell me she’s about to say what I think she’s about to say!”

“And…”

“Are you serious?” Nelly was saying in astonishment. “Do you know  how hard it is to get those tickets?”

“And… I didn’t get them,” Tia said finally.

All four faces fell in synchronization. “You’re kidding me!” Kaisu exclaimed. “You got us excited for nothing”. Everyone nodded; irritated as they made remarks about how unfair the joke their friend had played was.

Suddenly a smile broke out onto Tia’s face. She giggled before saying, “Just joking! I won! I have five backstage passes to their tour! We’re meeting the boys!

That was when the screaming began. Jade’s first instinct was to stand up and start running around the room victoriously. Caitlin was smiling ecstatically and Nelly was trying to stop hyperventilating. Kaisu was exclaiming, “thank you thank you thank you,” over and over again. Tia gave a squeal of her own, “All expenses paid; flights and accommodation. We’re staying in a five-star hotel one room away from the boys! We’re flying out tomorrow morning!”

The five friends found themselves at the airport at five AM with a sky-high pile of luggage. They dropped it off at the front-desk, showing their tickets and passports to the woman working there. They walked through the metal detectors and were led off to the waiting area where they snuggled up with blankets and watched television on a screen in the corner of the room, as they waited for their airplane to arrive. Jade was drumming her hands on the sides of the seats restlessly, “How much longer?” She inquired.

“About ten minutes,” Nelly responded automatically. She had been deemed the most responsible of the group so she was the one holding all the paperwork.

“This feels like a dream,” Caitlin pointed out, smiling.

They were directed onto a luxurious jet plane by a group of attendants. It wasn’t until they were on board that they realized it wasn’t just any old jet. Other than the assistants, they were literally the only people on it. Tia looked around delightedly, “It’s a private jet!” She called looking elated. “This is so perfect”. It had five oversized and cushioned seats and a lengthy flat screen TV implanted onto a wall partition. The flight attendants showed them how to select movies and music to play. Just when they thought everything was perfect, one of the employees informed them that this very jet had accommodated One Direction  more than once. “I wonder whose seat I’m in!” Kaisu had exclaimed. “I’m getting the feeling its Liam’s!”

The whole group sung along to ‘Up All Night’ while Nelly worked out how to order food (they had everything!) and Jade repetitively flicked the lights on and off. It wasn’t long before they all wore themselves out. The early hours of the morning combined with their excitement knocked them all out eventually. They all snuggled into a comfortable position in their reclining chairs to sleep the rest of the trip.

Caitlin, being the first to awaken, darted around the aircraft shaking everyone conscious. Everyone wakened eventually with mixed reactions, until of course they remembered exactly where they were. “Good morning girls,” One of the escorts greeted chirpily. “Welcome to London!”
