The Beginning

For as long as I can remember, the best days were waking up in my bed, right beside me was the huge window. The sunlight pouring into our room as our mother was there, responsible for opening our curtains. A beautiful smile on her lips as she greets me and my older brother a 'Good Morning' with her sweet sounding voice.

Though now, all I see when I open my eyes are the dull, and gloomy ceiling we wake up to.

It's been four years since the virus has spread, an unknown toxic virus that kills anyone above the age of thirteen. At that time, I was nine years old, I had a brother who was older than me by a year, he was Ten. We had two other siblings with us as well, though they were adopted into our Orphanage. The oldest girl was Six and the boy was just a toddler, he was just three years old when the virus has spread. Mom died, Dad... has passed away long ago due to an incident. It was just us kids alone in the world. The world where vampires now hunt for children, for blood.

Today was no other, to survive and not starve, our food package was running low, it could only survive us for today, though we had milk power for the toddler, it wasn't enough to last three bottles, the least he had was one, and three-quarters, As the older siblings, my brother and I didn't eat as much and gave our younger sister more food. Yet it wasn't needed as the door to our small orphanage was busted open, four hooded vampires swarmed our home and in a flash we see ourselves huddled together in a van ride. Other children were present, some were crying and others were stoic, yet there were also others who are angry. Different people do have different emotions, I was stoic, I had to calm down my younger sister, she was doing her best to muffle her cries down, yet as her older sibling, I know she can't. In the end, all I could do was hug her while I looked to my older brothers eyes for comfort while he was gently cradling the toddler.

Everything then changed drastically, clothes were replaced and chokers were around our necks, our info was in dog tags that were attached to them while we wore skin tight wrist and ankle bands of the same color. Though there were some minor changes to the new uniforms we're given, the color and designs stay the same, they were hooded as well. A chest pocket to our left was sewn in though there wasn't much use to it. For me, I was given a sleeveless uniform, they had accidentally passed me the males version of it as my younger sister had a gown instead, but it didn't matter. We were all equal in the eyes of the vampires. We were now their Live Stock.

The days then passed, we followed a routine as their livestock, we'd be woken up around early morning to assemble and gather in a messy bunch, we'd approach a no-classed vampire to confirm our names by scanning the dog tags we were given before we are allowed into a chamber, one I call the procedure where a decent amount of our blood would be taken and stored for vampires to drink on a daily basis- Honestly, they do not measure how much blood is taken, 'moderate' would be too kind. A huge volume leaves our body daily, leaving the children who enter to come out weak and unable to walk for a good while.  Most of the younger ones, some barely ten are seen just a good meter away from the exit sleeping on the ground after drinking the packeted drinks we are given to boost our iron and nutrients back to decent level.

Today is no different than the other... is what I thought.

--- Chapter 1: Mitsuyo Sect ---

It's well over two months since it's been Hinata's birthday, he's turned 7 this year and has made quite the commotion over it. Everything has settled down now, and the four of us are comfortably resting for the night. The two youngest, Hinata being the youngest and Kobori as the second and me the third. With a portable electric lamp to the center of our small room, a shadow loomed over me as I was caressing Hinata's hair. A smile on his lips, they reminded me of my mother, my brother Nori always did reflect my mother's smile a lot. "Hanna." Was all he said, the same smile and beautiful Turquoise eyes. He looked happy.
