It's the beginning of summer and I feel like crap because all i have done since the past few months is literally nothing.
I thought after university i would get a job but sometimes plans don't work out the way you want them to go and now here i am at the counter of the grocery store buying yoghurt and fruit because apparently my mom has taken up a new hobby trying to make everyone at home healthy.
"Sorry ma'am you're short of one dollar" the counter lady said.
The girl in front of me replies "are you sure, can you please check again"
I take out one dollar and hand it to the counter lady and say "Here you go, you can take this" and then the girl in front of me turns to me and says " It's fine, I'll just put one item back"
"It's alright, it's just a dollar anyways" i say and wave it off
She thanks me and nods at the counter lady.
Once i leave the store ,the girl comes in front of me and puts her hand forward and says "Hi my name is Maddie"
I shake her hand and say "Marvin"
"Thanks for what you did back there" she says
"Like i said before, it's no big deal" i say with a smile.
"How about i make it up to you, let's get a cup of coffee together."
"Oh no, there is no need for that" i shrug and reply
"Oh come on please, it's just a cup of coffee" she insists.
As we walk to the cafe, She breaks the awkward silence between us and asks
"So, do you live around here"
" Yeah, just a few blocks away. How about you" I reply and ask her
"I am here for work and at the moment I'm staying with my aunt. Let's see what happens next" she says and shrugs.
And right in then we arrive at the café and we order our drinks and grab a seat.
"So where do you work" i curiously ask her.
"It's an architectural firm and I'm a part of the interior designing team" she replies
I nod and say "Woah, that is pretty impressive"
Our drinks arrive and she takes a sip of her drink and after a pause asks "How about you do you work anywhere"
"I actually just got my degree in architectural design and now I'm just waiting for the right opportunity" i reply
"Oh you know what, my firm just started up this internship programme, if you're interested maybe you can give me your resume and i can try and help you out" she says with a smile.
"Wow, coffee and a job? I think you just turned into my best friend...where have you been all my life?" i say dramatically and she laughs.
And her laugh was what made me smile.
