______Ten years earlier______

"There's a monster under the bed." Credence told his adopted mother when he was five years old. Sternly, she told him that no such thing as monsters and gave him the belt for telling lies. But it wasn't a lie. Strange noised came from under the bed, but Credence hadn't built up the courage to look yet. But that didn't stop the strange noises coming from beneath him every time he went to sleep. But he didn't look under the bed, because as she had said, there was nothing there, right?

It was dark. Credence still couldn't sleep after having the belt again. He knew that he should be used to it after so many years but still, after all this time, he was scared - terrified, in fact. But the thing that scared him the most was the monster under his bed.

Most would call it childish to believe that such a thing would be under his bed, especially when one considers that Credence is indeed fifteen years old. However, every night, without fail, the monster would call his name in the most menacing whisper. Credence tried to tell his adopted mother but she was heartless and pushed him away, punishing him for lying. But still, after ten years, the monster was there.

Credence...

Quickly, Credence squeezed his eyes tightly closed and pretended not to hear the voice coming from under his bed. The bed began to shake but still, Credence pretended to be asleep. He didn't want to anger his adopted mother further and get the belt again. The shaking stopped but the voice continued to dance through his ears.

Credence... Credence... Credence...

In response to the whisper, Credence pulled the cover above his head and curled himself into a ball, burying his head in his hands. Absently, Credence smelt the blood on his sheets and knew he would be the one getting into trouble for leaving such a mess in the morning. He didn't want to hurt anymore. He didn't want to experience this pain, this fear, this hate... he wanted something else. He needed something else.

But all he got was fear.

Credence...

"What is this mess, Credence? First, you get a letter proclaiming that you're a freak and now this?" Credence's adopted mother shouted, slapping him across the cheek, hard. Credence flinched at the touch but dared not make a noise. She threw the dirty sheets at him, telling him to clean the blood off of them before church.

Credence hated church. He felt as if he didn't belong there. Everybody talked about the glory of God and how they appreciated everything they had and loved everyone in their families. But Credence didn't have any of that. He was alone.

Alone with the monster under the bed.

AN - I hope you like the first chapter! I dedicate this story to @SimplyKooky who came up with the idea to write a story about Credence! Also, I know it's quite short, sorry about that but it is one am here.
