Chapter 2
“Where’s your brother?” I asked Jensen as we played Prop Hunt.
“Drake? He’s over at Jason’s for the day. I told him that he had to get out because you were coming over and wouldn’t want his annoying arse bothering us all day.”
“Oh.” I said.
Jensen got this weird smirk on his face. “Why?” he asked. “Hoping to find your mate in him?” he winked at me. I’m glad I was sitting because that had made my knees weak.
I laughed nervously, “Uhm… I don’t think so, Jensen.” I looked back to my screen.
Jensen frowned. “What do you mean? I thought you liked Draco..?”
“I thought I did, too.” I lied. “But, he’s not my mate.” I still refused to look at him.
“How do you know? You haven’t even seen him today, and you only just turned 16. Unless…” he paused. I looked him in the eye now. “Unless… you’ve already found them..?”
I raised my brow.
“Oh, my Gods! You have, haven’t you? Wow, that was fast! So…?”
I looked at him. He sighed and turned off the game, setting his laptop aside. “Sooo,” he repeated, “who is it???”
I sighed. “I don’t think you want to know.”
“Uhh, yeah! I do want to know! Wait… it’s not one of my parents, is it? Or yours? Because that would just be weird.” He scrunched up his nose in disgust.
“No, no. It’s neither of our parents.” I hesitated. “But you’re close.”
Close? He mouthed. He scrunched up his eyebrows in thought. He thought for a few more seconds, then shouted, “AHA! It is Drake, isn’t it? It is!”
“No!” I shouted, aggravated.
“Then who…? Wait, is it Jason? Ewww! That’s just gross!”
“No, it’s not Jason! It’s not our parents, it’s not your brother, and it’s not your brother’s gay lover!” he looked shocked at my outburst, not so much at the fact that I knew that his brother was gay.
“Then…”
I stopped him. “It’s you.” I whispered “You are my mate.”
Dead silence.
Jensen looked like he had just seen a ghost. His face was pale and his mouth was hanging open. I sighed and reached over to close his mouth.
“Don’t worry,” I said softly, “I’m not going to act on it. It’s fine.” You see, Jensen knew about my having a mate, but he didn’t know that I needed my mate to live. And I plan on keeping it that way. I don’t want to force him to do something that he doesn’t want to do. It’s his choice, and I’m not going to pressure him.
“I… I think I need to think about this.” He whispered. “I’m not quite sure how to react.”
“I know, and its okay. You don’t need to decide. Not now, not ever if you don’t want to. Don’t worry about it.” Oh, did I forget to mention that the mate needs to decide within 24 hours of knowing that they’re a vampire’s mate? If they exceed those 24 hours, then the vampire dies. And if they outright reject the vampire, then they die almost instantly. And, if they’re lucky, they might get a few hours, if only to say goodbye to their loved ones. Plain and simple. No if’s, and’s, or but’s. But again, I didn’t want him to feel pressured.
