The next day
Aaliyah...
Beep, beep, beep!
My alarm clock rang while shaking viciously. I sat up on my bed thinking about whether I should call in sick or not so I don't have to go to that hell zone. I thought about my future like going to college and starting a family, missing school isn't going to help me achieve those goals. So, I climbed out my queen sized bed and strode over to the bathroom that was connected to my bedroom.
I brushed my teeth and took a quick shower before picking out my clothes. I decided to wear something other than an oversized hoodie and jogging pants, I slid into a dark blue long-sleeve fitted crop top, white jeans and, blue and white Jordan 5.
I walked downstairs and witness my step-dad eating some cereal while he was dressed in his work suit, completely ignoring the fact that I was going to be late for school if he didn't hurry up. I don't really like him or the fact that my mom went back to dating only three weeks after dad passed away and not only that was ten years younger!
I cleared my throat trying to get his attention, "I'll be waiting on the porch." I announced before grabbing my black sweater and bag then heading outside sitting on the bench that swung on the porch outside. I notice a white Sedan driving passed my house fairly slowly, the windows were tinted so I couldn't see who was inside. Dre stepped outside and locked the door behind him. As soon as he did so the white car sped off leaving the neighborhood. I couldn't help but stare at the scene that was just in front of me, "Al' come on what you staring at you're gonna be late." He rushed jogging to the car door. Why was he calling me Al' only my mom and real dad call be that he has no right I barely even know the man!
I decided to forget the small little rant in my mind and hoping the car to get to school.
10 minutes later
Dre pulled up to my school as I grabbed my school bag from the backseat."Aaliyah," he paused "I know I'm now your real father or anything but... I want you to treat me with just the same respect, please." I sincere smiled and blinked my tears away, I inclined and gave him a hug. "I will thank you for everything.. bye!" I said as I hopped out the car onto the path to get inside the school.
I was walking to the school door and I heard a horn being blown behind me I twirled around expecting to see Dre's black SUV but instead, it was the white car from earlier.
My face stained with horror, I slight gasp escaped my lips, I turned back around and ran to the door and pushed them open and stepped inside the empty school. I guess everyone already in class.
Since I wasn't looking where I was going I bumped into an old friend August. August is the only person that actually notices me getting bullied and does something about it. You know it's people that got money and are always flexing thinking they're better than everyone else but, August is not like that he is very humble the perfect kind of friend for me. He followed me not saying a word as I trudged to my locker and got my books out for math.
"Wh-what's up A?" I ask trying to end the awkward silence,
"nothing" he pauses, "I just wanted to check on you to make sure no one was fuckin' with you yesterday since I wasn't here." He replied as his voiced laced with a bit of anger. He bottled his hand into a tight fist. I giggle nervously waiting for his next move.
"What you laughing for, I'm not playing." His thick accent appears, as it always does when he's annoyed.
I'm f-fine August t-t-thanks so much for making sure I was safe." I stutter while adjusting the straps on my bag, they always seem to get undone by its self.
" Why you always stutterin' but I can't lie it hella sexy." He mumbled but I still heard.
I shrugged as a blush crept on my cheeks, it's quite rare form to get compliments "Okay, well, I have to get to 1st- period so see you at lunch." I said quite amazed since I didn't stutter.
He nodded as I left to class.
August...
After Aaliyah left I was off to my 1st-period class, gym. I felt something in my jean pants pocket vibrat, I slid my iPhone out of my pocket it was I text from my nigga Chris.
'Meet me outside the school, across the street. You'll see my car.'- 9:25
'Alright'-9:25
So much for 1st period, I tip-toed to the emergency exit to where Chris was.
Ever since Aaliyah was 10 Chris took a liking to her, some sort of obsession I can tell but didn't dare to ask he would probably be uncomfortable telling me what. I knew he wanted to 'take her out of her misery' and make her live with him but he said when she was 18 what does he want now?
I looked both ways before jaywalking across the street to Chris's white car. I open the passenger car door and hopped inside.
"What you need?" I ask
"How is she?" He asks in the tone with no emotion, "she's fine but when I bumped into her today she seemed pretty startled." He clenches his jaw tighter and tighter with every word I say,
"Why you want to know anyway you said you'll leave her alone until she's 18?" I question
"I can't wait that long, that's way too long." He must be high or something he never heard him talk like this. I to face him, he has a tear stained face and dark circles under his eyes. He was a wreck!
"I will have her to myself soon."
