The little girl walked over to the little boy. Her expression was warm throughout the entire walk. The boy stared blankly at her. His pale red eyes were dull and lifeless. They locked eyes. The girl knelt down to the boy once she was close enough. She pushed some of her brown locks behind her ear before saying quietly,

"My name is Lazari. What's your name?"

The boy sat there, speechless. He stared at Lazari. She smiled kindly at him, while waiting patiently for him to speak.

"Ar... eo... Areo...?" he said slowly. As if he hadn't spoke for years. It sounded like he was asking a question when he quietly spoke his name. Lazari smiled and gently ruffled his jet black hair. Her smile never seemed to fade. His eyes widened a little. Areo never thought that someone could touch him so gently.. He yanked his body away from Laz... He couldn't handle any more pain. Her face wore a worried expression as she stared at Areo. She opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by some woman screaming at her. The woman looked exactly like Lazari, except much older. She grabbed Lazari's arm and yanked her up. Lazari pulled away and grabbed Areo's hand. The woman glared at Areo and shook her head. Lazari pleaded with her eyes.. The woman finally gave in. Lazari turned to Areo and said,

"Areo, you have to run. Fast. With us." She said it quickly. The words barely sunk in before they dashed off. Areo felt free. Alive. He heard yelling and gunshots.. And sirens. He never heard sirens before. He was curious about what was happening, and why they were running. He opened his mouth to speak, but couldn't get the chance to. Suddenly the woman stopped running. Lazari stopped too. Areo was confused. The woman shook her head and smiled gently at Areo and Lazari. She nudged them behind the bushes. The woman then told them,

"Get ready. Ready to run." She smiled one last time before turning. There were men in blue uniforms. It all happened so fast. There was a lot of yelling. The woman was crying. She had her hands up. Gunshots were heard. Then a thump. Areo was confused. He tried to take a peek but Lazari picked him up and started to dash away. He took a look and saw that everyone was gone. Including the woman. There was some blood stains on the grass where everyone was. Areo looked at Lazari's face. She was crying. Areo didn't know why. He wanted to comfort her. He wanted to make her happy... He didn't want her to feel the pain that she does.
