"Well I chose the right seat didn't I?" I hear Jack laugh. Come on Sav play it cool, play it cool.

"Well I mean you had no other choice right? It was literally the only seat left".

"You've got a good point there". I just nod, what was I thinking this is so awkward I couldn't of come up with a better response? Like he read my mind he saved the conversation, "We had classes together last year right? I don't know why I never talked to you".

"Me neither" we both laugh, "I guess I'm just not really the outgoing type.. I guess." the conversation gets more serious.

"From talking to you for like three minutes you seem pretty cool, I'm actually really glad I chose you for my partner." His smile is sincere.

The rest of class is spent on one of those random class surveys that teachers always hand out on the first day and I find myself sad to be saying goodbye to Jack for the rest of the day. A month goes by and nothing new happens with him, I hate to say I'm disappointed because it is what I should've expected.

As I'm finishing up our partner project and scrolling through netflix, my phone buzzes next to me on the bed.

*New Message*

Jack Avery- hey

-hey? did i forget to give u somethin for the project?

Jack Avery- no lol, am i not allowed to just text u? :)

Holy shit. Is he really just texting me? He must be kidding.. he's kidding right?

-lol no u are, what's up?

Jack Avery- so if im allowed to text u am i allowed to ask u on a date?

- um yep thats completely fine, definitely acceptable. what time and where?

My phone starts buzzing in my hand and I see Jack's name pop up on the screen. He's calling me. I panic and stand up off my bed, I clear my throat and answer the call while sitting down not knowing why I stood in the first place.

"Um hey?" my voice is shaky.

"Hey Sav" I can hear his laugh behind the phone, "what're you doing right now?"

"Well I'm almost done with our civil war project, I just have to type the parts you sent me so-"

"You what? Sav it's a Friday night why are you working on homework? I'm on my way to pick you up you're not sitting in your room all night. Be there in twenty." He says before hanging up.

I sit on my bed for a second taking in everything that just happened, before today we were just table partners, half an hour ago he basically asked me on a date, and now he'll be here in twenty minutes to pick me up. Shit I have twenty minutes, I check my phone reading 7:48 and get up realizing I need to get ready. I pull my straight hair into a ponytail on the top of my head and call it good, next I reapply my concealer and add a few layers of mascara. I exchange my grey sweats for ripped jeans leaving my plain black longsleeve on and grabbing my favorite checkered vans.

By the time I'm ready I have a few minutes before he gets here so I go downstairs and stand by the front window debating on whether or not I should go back upstairs to get a sweatshirt. The sun will be setting soon and it'll probably start getting cold soon after, as I turn to go back upstairs I see his car pull into the driveway and forget the sweatshirt. I go outside quickly before he can come to the front door so my parents don't make a big deal about me going out with a boy.

"Good evening Ms. Makay" he jokes and bows as he holds open the passenger side door for me.

"Why thank you kind sir" I joke back stepping into the car and buckling my seatbelt. I wait for him to come around and get in the drivers side before asking where we're going.

"Well you don't have to worry you're pretty little mind about that, I've got it covered" he turns and winks as he backs out of my driveway.
