Alaska stood in front of a big building. Her hands were shaking a bit, but it was all gone as she finally decided to walk inside the building, a.k.a her new school.
Alaska moved to another country, Pennsylvania, U.S.A, exactly. Her family moved there for the reason of a better living. It was hard for Alaska to say goodbye to her friends, it was all too sudden. But there was nothing she could do, and so she moved.
Alaska sighed, and then stepped into her new school. As she walked inside she discovered people her age walking around the hall, standing in front of their lockers doing whatever they were doing. Some of them stared at her as she walked along, which made Alaska feel uneasier than she already was.
Alaska finally reached the Principal's Office. She knocked on the door three times, and waited. Nobody answered nor opened the door, so she raised her hand and tried to knock again. Her hands was only a few inches from the door when it swung open and a man in a suit stood there. Alaska quickly took her hand away.
"Oh hi! You must be Alaska," he said friendly. "I've been waiting for you, come in."
Alaska came in and take a look at the room. It had two couches, a big glass table and three large cupboards, filled with books and some small statues; probably for decoration. The walls were painted white, and so was the ceiling. It was big, and comfortable too, Alaska thought.
"So, how do you think of the building?" Mr. Mitch disturbed Alaska's thought of the room. "I hope you like it, I mean it's gonna be your school."
Alaska just smiled back. "It's not that I don't like it," she paused for awhile. "I'm probably not used to it yet."
"Well, you will," Mr. Mitch said confidently. "In just a few minutes I'm gonna start showing you around. Is there anything you want to ask me?"
Alaska shook her head. Mr. Mitch smiled. "Okay then, let's go."
Right at that time the bell rang and the hall sounded so quiet. Mr. Mitch went out of the room, and Alaska followed right behind him. He started showing her her locker, and then all the rooms and places that were necessary for her to know, like the classrooms, cafetaria, counseling room, gym, even the restrooms.
"Okay, so that's it!" Mr. Mitch sighed. "That was quiet a lot, wasn't it? Well you can start tomorrow."
"Okay then."
Mr. Mitch smiled. "Okay, you can leave now," he said.
"Thanks Sir, I guess I'll see you around," Alaska thanked him as she started to walk away.
"Oh one thing Alaska," Mr. Mitch called out. "Just make yourself as comfortable as possible here, okay?"
"I will," Alaska turned her head and smiled, and then continued to walk away and head home.
Time went by so fast. Without Alaska knowing it she was in front of the school gate again. This time, she was gonna join the classes- for real. She had decided what classes she was gonna take for the rest of the school year - biology, english, math, chemistry, vocal jazz, and community service.
She went in without hesitating any longer. She took the stairs to the second floor and entered the room. She found herself to be the first person to be in the class, so she picked the seat at the back, beside the window.
"Well hello there! You're the new student, right?" A voice asked out as it made Alaska to turn to the direction of the voice. Before Alaska managed to say something back the voice said something again.
"I'm Ms. Katherine, but you can call me Ms. Kat for short," she smiled widely. "I will be your Chemistry teacher."
At that instance Alaska's heart was beating faster than usual. 'It must be the smile, it's contagious that it makes me so happy my heart is beating so fast,' Alaska thought to herself.
