Murder... The word that people despised. It brought not only loss but stands for death. One of the many things that scares humans; as their was really no way to control it... One of the many things that changed her life forever.

"Please don't leave me." Savannah pleaded, looking down at her limp mother.

Her blood went around them, staining the hardwood floor. This all my  fault... If only I had locked the door that night. Savannah thought not helping the sob that escaped her lips.

The intruders words rang through her head, over and over again; like a broken record.

"This is all your fault." Her father spit. Breaking anything in his path. That day the old him was gone, never to return.

The nightmare of this day would haunt Savannah in her sleep; as her life was never the same.

Life was unfair, the world is a horrible place. It was like everything came crashing down at one moment. The only person she had left after that was her best friend... They slowly grew apart as he didn't know what went on behind the doors of her house.

Years passed, as the day still made her life worse. Not having the money to move she was still stuck in the same house... By the same river.

Soon another murder happened, the same way as... Her mother's. Suspicions spread through the small town, their closest neighbor a mile away was now dead. Not many people lived there.

A twenty minute ride to town. She would live in town to if she had the money. That day when the detective came to the door; it was just fate. As she didn't know it then... But, he would save her. It... Was just something about the way he looked Savannah; that made her heart go a mile a minute.

The day had went by fast... To fast. Soon it was just her on the couch; late at night watching TV.

"Your mom fell asleep, so I'm going to carry her upstairs... Goodnight." Her dad declared, smiling. Lifting up her sleeping mom, he made it halfway up the stairs as he turned back to Savannah... "Make sure to lock the door." Savannah nodded, she knew it was one of her worst decisions not to get up right then and do it...

Forgetting made her life fall apart, as what happens next was all her fault. Savannah swears remembering locking the door that night but it was the only explanation on what had happened…

The room around Savannah spinned as her eyes shot open. Sweat rolled down her face, as she let out a sigh.

Pulling her knees up to her chest, letting the salty tears fall. Thought's zipped through her head like an airplane. Whipping them all away, She knew their was nothing that could put her back to sleep.

Kicking the covers off, sent goosebumps to her bare skin. Quietly walking down the stairs, she sighed in relief not waking her dad; as the fresh air bitter consumed her. Feeling much better, she sat on a rock by the river. It continued to flow, as the sound made her lose train thought. Looking around she was met by the shadows of the night.
