I was an hour into my treadmill workout when an alert showed up on my phone. I checked to see it was a voicemail from my high school's administrative office. I wondered why I didn't hear the phone ring but shrugged it off as I paused the treadmill. Normally I would check it after I had my full workout but education was priority over fitness.

"Mrs. Thomas we would like to have a meeting with you this afternoon regarding valedictorian and graduation. Sincerely Vice Principal Barnes and Head of Guidance Mrs. Hington."

I added the meeting to my calendar and called my tutor.

"Hey dudette." He said as he picked up. Mr. Johnson was way to chill for a tutor.

"Hi. So can we reschedule my weekly session to review my progress?" I asked.

"Yeah sure. Any valedictorian news?"

"Actually yeah! I'm meeting the heads of graduation to discuss it today."

"Totally rad!" He said and I rolled my eyes.

"Okay bye Johnson." I hung up and proceeded to workout.

I pulled up to school on my motorcycle and made sure there wasn't anyone else around. Riding my motorcycle was more fun but not at all professional. I walked up to the school and rang the intercom. When no one answered I went to call the school.

"Holly Thomas?" A deep voice rang out. I spun around to see a man dressed in a suit that I recognized as the head of fundraising. He j

"Mr. Barnes asked me to step in for him. Mrs. Hington is waiting inside." I nodded and followed him into the school and into the guidance office. Mrs. Hington was wearing a t shirt and shorts rather than her usual long skirt or pantsuit. Even when I met with her on the weekends she would be wearing work attire. I sat down at the table across from her.

"This is Mike Waterson." She said. The way that he looked showed that he was still processing this information. I glanced at him then fixed my gaze back on Mrs. Hington.

"So Holly you came here to talk about valedictorian," she said, pulling her blonde hair into a ponytail, making her look ten years younger.  I nodded. "but that's not what we're here to talk about."

"What's going on Mrs. Hington? Did you bring me here to tell me I'm not valedictorian?"

"First of all, you can call me Jessica. Second, you're still valedictorian. And third," She looked over to Mike who nodded. "we're here to offer you the chance of a lifetime."

Mike pulled a perfume looking bottle out of his briefcase. Jessica clicked start on a stopwatch.

"Have you ever heard of the CIA?" Mike asked. I nodded.

"Of course."

"And spies?"

"Um I guess so. But what does that have to do with-"

"Shh. Anyway Jessica and I here don't really work for your school. We've been placed here by the government to keep on eye on one of the most talented prodigies in the United States."

"And that me, right?" I asked.

"Yes." They answered unison.

"Why do I need to know this?" I asked.

"We want to recruit you. Holly." Jessica said. "You're one of the brightest and most fantastic individual in this generation."

"What would I be doing?" I asked.

"Well remember how we brought up spies before? Believe it or not the United States CIA has... spies." Mike replied.

I just laughed. "You've got to be kidding." I said. Jessica and Mike didn't reply they just sat there.

"Okay. So you're asking me to become a spy in the CIA?" I asked. I pinched myself and didn't wake up. I can't believe this is really happening.

"Yes. And it's almost the time limit for the memory spray so we need an answer." Jessica said, grabbing the spray.

This is an incredible opportunity. My whole life I had been practicing for something great and what could be more challenging, rewarding and helpful than this? My only plan was to become a doctor but this, this could be me saving the world. I took a deep breath and nodded.

"I'm in."

Jessica and Mike smiled and put the memory spray back into the briefcase. Mike handed me a brochure for a boarding school.

"Give this to your parents. Tell them that we want you to go to this gifted school upstate. Of course we will really be taking you to our Spy Academy but no one can know. Not even your parents. We will pick you up from here tomorrow."

"Tomorrow!?" I exclaimed. Mike nodded.

"Unless you'd like to be memory wiped and resume life as a normal person."

"No its okay. See you tomorrow."
