It had taken just under a year; lots of planning, lots of arguing, lots of girly chit chat and an unlimited amount of kissing to finally get to the night before the big day. Alec was having a complete mental breakdown, nerves were getting to him and he only just found out he wouldn't see Magnus until the alter tomorrow afternoon. As soon as he fell asleep, that would be his last glance.
The thought terrified him more than it should be. His only moral support would be his mother and two hyperactive bridesmaids; Izzy and Tessa. One from each side of the family. Clary was a bridesmaid too, but she was staying in another place not too far away with Jace, Alec's best man. Though Jace was honoured, he knew in Alec's mind that he was just the only choice; and if he weren't, he would be second. If things had been different, it would've been little Max being the best man at the mere age of 14.
But instead, everyone is pretending he refused and just wants to be normal. So there's a seat next to Maryse on the front row reserved for him. They left out Robert's seat though, he wasn't particularly missed in their family. Isabelle was glad that her mum would be handing her over at her wedding when the time came.
"Why do I have to play the role of the woman anyway? Couldn't we just change it to fit us?" Alec was grumbling about how he had to be the one that walked down the isle.
"Hey, at least you're not wearing a dress." Jace laughed, "now that I would pay to see."
"Oh so you're only coming because I made you best man?" He had managed to partially calm down from his mental breakdown, "little harsh, man." Now, he was at a nearby restaurant with Jace.
"Sensitive tonight, aren't we?"
"Not in the mood for your comments. I should be back at the villa with Magnus, he leaves before I wake up in the morning. When I sleep, I won't see him again until the altar in the afternoon!"
"Such a girl..." He sipped on some of his drink, a very strong pineapple cocktail he had proudly made himself without fail.
Alec rolled his eyes and looked out at the beach. They were sat outside on a wooden bench along a pavement that overlooked a rather quiet road and the beach. The sun was setting over the sea, the sky being a rainbow of colours that reflected off the waves of the slowly growing tide. The sun was a dull orange, the rays matching Jace's eye colour and made them sparkle. Alec looked over at him and smiled, glad that he had found someone else, instead of hopelessly dreaming of dating his parabatai. Or, ex-parabatai; Jace had now died twice and Alec multiple times so they both found it pointless to redo their runes. Especially since Alec was a warlock now.
Jace looked over and smiled back, but in the same friendly manner. He and Clary were going smoothly, not engaged yet. Clary was now being the impatient one while Jace just went with the flow and didn't particularly want to stop his life so early to be married. Everyone was struck by confusion when he told them (not Clary) but all well, they all knew he'd give in some day.
"Hey, Alec?" Jace breaks the silence.
"Hm?" Alec looked up at him, looking as if he were 18 again instead of 23. But instead of being the grumpy little teenager, he looked calm and carefree the way he should have been.
"Just don't worry.. Okay?" He smiled. "Can't be that bad. We'll all be too busy crying into our little handkerchiefs because our brother is gone. Or son in mum's case."
Alec laughed, happy. "It's easier said than done." He looked back over to the beach, "I hope Magnus takes me to walk along this beach.. It's ever so quiet."
Jace nodded, hmm-ing in agreement, looking out as well.
They stayed like that for another hour or so, just chatting casually before paying the bill and going their separate ways. Alec back to their house on the cliff where Magnus was waiting on the sofa, all curled up in a blanket, fast asleep; while Jace went back to the hotel everyone was staying out, finding Clary sprawled over the bed, taking up as much space as possible..
