Sitting on her small, run-down couch, sipping a mug of hot chocolate, Madison thought back to why she was in her position. Firstly: she had no family. None at all. Well, in the past she had a sort-of family, she supposes. But they were gone. They hadn't left her to fend for herself. In a way they had, but it was a different scenario. They were murdered whilst protecting her. Her two step-brothers and her step-father fought the masked men whilst her step-mother and step-sister ushered her out of the house through the back window, only to be greeted with more masked men. Victoria (her step-sister)had said "I'll handle them" and her step-mother had pulled her away while Victoria fought them along with other close friends. Madison and her step-mother wandered for days until they came across the house. Angie (her step-mother) had become so sick that she passed away shortly after they arrived but not before telling Madison "don't trust the masked men. But sometimes you need to trust people you don't know." But before she could ask what she meant, Angie had passed. Second thing: Maddie was scared and had no way of defending herself. Third: She had no idea where she was. And because of that, Maddie was scared, alone and vulnerable.

She had thought of what Angie had said to her 'But sometimes you need to trust people you don't know'. What did that mean? It was obvious, Maddie had thought numerous times but why trust strangers when people are out there trying to kill you? Nothing made sense anymore. Well nothing ever made sense but now it's worse, she thought as she stood up to peek out the window. She was close to another village, not one she had visited so it's a good couple of days away from her old village but she didn't want to go back. She didn't want to go into this new village because she knew nothing about it, though she had probably heard about it. Her village wasn't cut off from everything and everyone, it was just small. It had electricity and running clean water so it was fairly well-developed. But she had no need to visit outside. She had everything she needed. Friends, people who cared and loved her (like a family). She considered herself lucky until now, when something or someone was out to get her. The thought that it was someone connected to her past had crossed Maddie's mind more times than she could count, but she tried hard not to believe it. But she kept thinking it was true. She pushed a strand of her greasy, chestnut hair behind her ear as she took a step back from the window and lightly pulled on the curtain to cover the window. It was starting to get dark, which had always made her on edge, now more than it had in the past.

She quietly padded across the room and plopped down onto a mattress that she had pulled from the bedroom into the small, main living space. She sat with her back and head both resting on the wall. Her hazel eyes had lost their light and were beginning to drop as she looked around the room which was being dimly lit by a small lamp that sat next to her mattress. She didn't want there to be too much light in case people began to suspect something. Maybe they had, but they hadn't come up to check. Probably because she was out of their sight... As the world outside began to grow darker, Maddie slid down so she was laying on the mattress and she drifted off to sleep.

When Maddie woke the next day, it was close to mid morning. With a short sigh, she remained in her position and fell back asleep. But that only lasted so long.

When she awoke again, it was to the sound of stopping tyres, car doors closing and footsteps getting closer to her temporary home. Maddie slowly sat up, staring at the door. The footsteps stopped outside the front door. Maddie dared not to move. She dared not to breathe, scared it would only give away the fact that she was there. But that was stupid. They knew she was there. She heard three strong and steady knocks before inaudible murmuring from the outside. She slowly stood up taking small steps to the kitchen area where there was a small window. Peering out that window, she saw two big, black cars and men in suits standing outside. Not all of them were in suits though, some were wearing a black military outfit, holding guns but, to her surprise, they were pointed away from the house. With a small sigh of relieve, she cautiously made her way to the door. Like a little child, she slowly opened the door to reveal a man with his hair cut short, slight stubble and wearing a black suit. He removed his sunglasses.

"Miss Madison, I'm Agent Gregg. I'm here on behalf of SIU and we would like a word with you." The man said.

"Umm, sure," Maddie said, finally finding her voice. She stepped aside allowing Agent Gregg and the other agent inside. "I'm sorry I can't offer you anything to drink. I haven't got much here," she trailed off. Agent Gregg slowly nodded his head in under standing whilst looking around. He sat down on her couch when she gestured they could. They were going to sit down on it anyway, she thought.

"Madison, this is Agent Davis," Agent Gregg said nodding in the direction of a handsome young agent who couldn't be that much older than her. (A/N Maddie is 19 years old) His light brown hair was gelled up and his brown eyes that were previously looking around the room, flickered to her as he gave a slight nod in acknowledgement. Maddie gave a small smile in return. She had become immediately self-conscious on her appearance as she wasn't expecting company. She wrapped her small arms around her petite figure that was clothed in a teal coloured vest top and a pair of faded, ripped blue jeans. Her hair was becoming slightly matted in her ponytail and she knew she didn't look like she did before. She had dark under eye circles from lack of sleep, her eyes had lost their light and her skin was losing its healthy glow. She quickly turned her attention back to Agent Gregg, who had began speaking again.

"SIU had been informed of the incident that occurred in your village. My team and I were sent to have a look at what happened. Many people had been hurt and killed. Those people who had been hurt had told us what happened and about you. They told us how you arrived in their care and about the family that cared for you. I do regret to inform you, they didn't make it," Maddie nodded her head, having already come to that decision. "I have talked to head quarters and they believe that it would be wise if you come back to base with us."

"So I won't cause anyone else to get hurt?" Maddie asked silently.

"So that you are protected," Agent Davis spoke for the first time. Maddie nodded again.

"We wish to leave with you shortly, in case of any problem arise." She knew what they were talking about. The masked men. "We will give you time to pack anything you need. We'll be waiting outside." And with that the two agent stood up and left. Maddie looked around the room, trying to find something. Her eye caught a photograph that Angie had given her. It was a photo of all of them together, taken a few years prior. She grabbed that and walked towards the door, closing it as she stepped outside.

She finally understood what Angie had said. Now she had to believe that she's trusting the right people.

A/N so her is my first chapter for my first story. I hope this was good. I just started writing and this was the outcome. I like how this chapter turned out but I would like some reviews on it. Ummm, I'm probably going to get comments on this but I got the idea from watching Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. please don't hate because of that. I have changed and tweaked it because I don't want it to be the same but my inspiration came from that show. It won't follow the show because, it's not the same. And if you like and watch that show SENDING VIRTUAL HUG!!! so yea, thank you for reading and let me know what you think :):) Just do you know I do have my GCSE's soon so I will be revising for them, but I will write this story when possible :)
