-Author's Note: woah so I haven't updated this since January. I literally suck at updating. I do not have any inspiration to write most of the time. I wish I did, I just don't really have the energy to find inspiration if that makes sense. I'm the world's laziest person, I'm sorry. I always promise I'll get better at posting but just don't take my word for it because I definitely will not post regularly. I just decided to write because I miss writing. None of you even care about this story anyway so... Anyway, enjoy!-
-Amber's P.O.V-
I whip my head around until I'm facing where I think the bullet came from, and I duck down behind a nearby car.
I hear a shouting coming from the crumbling building ahead of me, and I strain to hear the voice.
"Put down your weapon!" the man yelled.
I slowly put my hands up as if to surrender. "I do not have any weapons! Do not shoot!" I exclaimed back.
I heard nothing, but I saw a man cautiously stride his way to me with a gun raised to his eye.
"Put your hands out in front of you and keep your palms up," he demanded.
I obliged and kept my hands palm up and waited for his hands to travel my body and search for the truth. Instead, I felt cold metal clasp around my wrists as he handcuffed me.
"What the hell are you doing?" I cried.
"I don't want any funny business," he answered.
"There is no funny business! I haven't seen people in months and my machete is back in the factory I slept in last night, I swear," I explained, "You can check."
"Fine. Lead me there. Then I will be on my way."
"Then what about these handcuffs?" I motioned to the metal around my wrists.
"I'll think about letting you go."
"Why didn't you just let that zombie eat me then?"
"Well then I'd definitely have to kill both of you, and I already have a lot of blood on my hands."
I nodded and looked over his shoulder. "We better go then. They got attracted to the gun shot. It's just back that way to the left."
He motioned for me to lead the way, so I rolled my eyes and lead him down the road to the place where I previously slept.
"Are you alone?" I asked him.
He didn't answer, instead keeping his eyes on the alleyways in between the buildings, which seems to be more for his safety than mine.
"Hey, I'm talking to you," I said, stopping dead in my tracks to get his attention.
He whipped his head towards me and glared in my direction.
"What the hell do you want?"
"I asked you if you were alone."
"What's in it for you?"
I put my hands up in surrender as best I could. "Nothing, I'm just making conversation. I haven't talked to anyone since...," I looked away and started walking again. "Nevermind."
He jogged and caught up to me "Wait. Since what?" He inquired.
I huffed and looked down, not wanting to remember. "Since the barn." I felt tears come to my eyes as the horrific images flashed through my mind.
"What happened?"
"I don't want to talk about it."
"It's okay, you can tell me."
"I said, I don't want to talk about it!" I snapped.
He nodded. "I am alone."
I looked at him and nodded. We continued down the road in silence until we came across the factory.
"This is it." I motioned to the building.
He analyzed the exterior and waited for me to walk in.
I hesitantly began to trudge my way into the building once more, afraid there would be more walkers.
As we walked into the building, I could already hear the shuffling of the dead. I wanted to turn around, but I knew my only weapon and constant was in this building, waiting to be grabbed.
I turned to the man and whispered, "we need to be careful. I don't have a weapon and you only have a gun, which will only attract them."
"Well, where's your machete?" he asked.
I pointed to the ceiling, showing him that it's upstairs.
He sighed and crouched down, as did I to quiet our movements so we didn't attract any monsters.
We walked towards the stairs and waited in the silence to know if the stairwell was clear.
"I think we're good," he whispered.
We began our ascent up the stairs, and as we stepped on the last level, we could see that it was completely empty.
"This seems..." I began.
"Ominous?" he questioned.
I nodded my head and continued into the corridor, still crouching as I made my way into the room I had occupied the night before.
I scanned the room and found my machete laying on the floor next to an empty can of food that I had eaten.
I pointed to it and began walked towards it, no longer very worried about the walking dead just below me.
I picked up my weapon with ease and smiled brightly as I looked it over and marveled at how sharp it seemed.
"Alright, let's go," he said.
I nodded and headed out, but as soon as I rounded the corner and looked behind him at the stairs, I saw a zombie running towards him. I shoved my machete into it's abdomen and watched as he fell to the ground as a pile of flesh.
He looked at me in horror, but he didn't have much time to react as more of them came barreling up the steps towards us.
I ran forward and cut through two of their throats. I heard a gun shot and then saw anther zombie go down just as it was about to reach for me.
I looked back at him and saw a zombie just about to lunge at him so without thinking, I pulled the secret knife I had been hiding out of my shoe and watched as it whizzed past his ear and sliced right into the skull of the dead.
We were engulfed in silence except for my heavy breathing as we collected ourselves and took note of what happened.
I walked over and pulled the knife out of the zombies head, and wiped the blood off on my jeans.
"Why did you do that?" He asked, putting away his gun.
Pacing, I answered, "do what?"
"Save me."
I shrugged my shoulders. "You don't seem like you deserve to die that way."
"And what way do I seem like I deserve to go down?"
I thought for a moment.
"Guns blazing."
