2015I walked around the apartment barefoot. Past the pictures hanging on the walls. Past the shoebox I kept on the shelf. Past the sea shells and the polaroids.
I walked into the living room and stopped in front of the old record player. I swiped my hand across the surface and a cloud of dust like a storm drifted away and fell still into the floor.
I looked over on the floor and saw the records piled up, also covered in dust. He took an Elvis record off of the top of the stack and looked at it. Elvis sat posing in a Hawaiian shirt, smiling.
I took the disk out of the cover and put it on the rack of the record player. I took the needle and put it into the record. The record started to spin and Elvis played softly through the living room.
I took a seat on the sofa that stood in the middle of the room, grumbling as I had to massage my sore knees.
Elvis played.
I fished the remote to the tv out from the cushion and turned it on. The screen flashed brightly as an advertisement played.
Elvis played.
I took the shoebox out of the shelf and looked at it. Memories already flashed through my mind.
Elvis played.
I took the beaten down lid off of the dusty box and set it down next to me. I took out the Polaroids that my love took years ago. Though they were old, I still heard the ocean. I still saw the waves crashing into the shore.
The record player grumbled.
I blinked back tears.
Elvis played.
I sifted through the box some more and saw the letter my baby wrote to me years ago. I read through the letter, admiring his handwriting.
A smile seeped onto my face.
My fingers traced over the writing.
Elvis played.
I looked back to the tv. Bright rainbow flags swayed as people gathered and cheered. The new reporter stood on front of all of the commotion.
Elvis played.
She stood with a bright smile on her face as she spoke.
"Same sex marriage is legalized all across America!" She exclaimed. The camera moved from the reporter and settled on two boys dancing. They looked like Castiel and Dean. Their foreheads were pressed together and they smiled, mumbling to each other. One held a rainbow flag, letting it get filled with the wind.
Elvis played.
I turned off the tv and took out a photo of me and Castiel. I grinned like a fool and held the picture to my heart.
"D'you hear that baby? I know you did. I can't wait to see you again", I whispered.
Elvis played.
I put the photos and the letter back in the shoebox and closed the lid. I slid it back in the shelf. Tears welled up in my eyes.
Elvis played.
I walked to the record player. I was about to take the needle off of the record when something stopped me. I dropped my hand and walked to my room.
Elvis played.
I took my clothes off and put on my night clothes. I took a pillow and a blanket from my bed and walked into the living room. I settled on the couch and closed my eyes.
Elvis played.
I woke up in the middle of the night. I had a pain in my chest, it felt like a fire was clawing at my heart. I squeezed tightly at my heart.
Elvis played.
I was fading away. Seconds passed. I stayed in my spot with a hand on my heart.
"Baby", I whispered,"I will see you soon."
The pain stopped suddenly.
A light blinded me.
Elvis played.
I inched my eyes open. All the pain was gone. I couldn't feel anything. I felt as light as air. I stood up from my spot on the sofa. I felt renewed.
Elvis played.
I walked through the living room to the record player. The smooth music soaked through me. I heard someone clear their throughly behind me.
Elvis played.
I turned around slightly startled. I was met with a pair of glowing blue eyes, as rich as the ocean.
"Cas?"
"Yes. Now shush and hold me"
He stepped towards me and gripped my hands. He wrapped them around him and hooked them together behind his neck. He hugged my waist and started stepping to the music.
"I missed you so much baby", he whispered in my ear.
We danced.
Tears of joy fell from my eyes.
Elvis played.
