- April 14, 1912 -
The night of the sinking of the Titanic.
"Come on, we're almost there!" Niall urged, his arm hugged tightly around his 8 year old daughter on his hip while his free hand grasped his wife's pale shaking fingers.
They ran through the dingy halls of third class, passengers with white life vest all around them. Some were in a panic, aimlessly running around not knowing what to do while others desperately grabbed for their things in hopes of getting to the lifeboats. Something Niall and his family were doing.
Titanic was sinking. The "unsinkable" ship of dreams was going to disappear into the depths of the Atlantic, along with many of its inhabitants. Not unless they could get to a boat in time, and Niall was determined to do so.
Scarlett's long red hair was flowing behind her as she stayed close to her husbands side, their feet picking up as a stream of water was hot on their heels. Her life jacket was squeezing her chest making it even harder for her to breath, though she ignored it staying focused on getting up to the deck to safety. Her other hand was gathered into her dress to hike it up to prevent her from tripping over herself, something she was used to doing. Her clumsiness being something Niall found utterly adorable, though at a time like this was something to avoid.
Niall weaved his way through the crowds of people. A few shoved past him to get to the gates causing him to curse under his breath and shouting profanities at men who could of very well harmed his wife or daughter with their rough behavior. Lucy's head was buried into his shoulder as she clutched around his neck. Her red locks that resembled her mothers, fanned over the shoulders of her thick black jacket to keep her warm from the biting cold that laid thickly in the air outside.
Niall kept his hand clasped tightly in Scarlett's as they came to a halt. He peered over the heads of people that were crammed in a hallway in uproar.
"Let us out, you bloody bastards!" An Irish voice rung out through the yells of men and women.
"They have not sorted all first class into the boats yet, please stay calm!" A proper male voice said through the black gates, and judging by his slicked over hair and white outfit he was a part of the ships faculty that worked for the higher classes. "Please put your life belts on!" He asserted, repeating the same thing over and over, ignoring the swears and demanding questions thrown at him and the officers on the other side.
"Niall -- what's happening?" Scarlett whispered to her husband, worry clouding her features as he glimpsed back at her, a certainty in his blue iris's.
"Don't worry, I'll figure it out and we'll get out of here." He promised, giving her hand a gentle squeeze, before letting go. "Take Lucy." He gently handed her to Scarlett, placing her comfortably on her hip as his two girls stared at Niall.
"What are you going to do?" She asked nervously, clutching her daughter close to her.
Niall sighed looking up to the closed gates, "What I have to." He replied, "I'll be back. Just stay here." He demanded softly, starting to make his way through the horde of passengers.
"Be careful, daddy!" Lucy pleaded, some fearful tears brimming in her blue eyes as she watched his head of blonde hair disappear into the rowdy crowd.
"Shhh." Scarlett soothed, rubbing her back. "It's okay, darling." She whispered her chin resting on top of her head hiding her face into her mothers comforting embrace. She watched the crowd anxiously as she awaited Nialls return.
"There are women and children back here! You can't just lock us up like bloody dogs!" Niall raged, his fingers tightly clutching the medal gate that separated him from the worker on the other side.
