I look up at the beanstalk and cringe. Higher than anything I've ever climbed and taller than anything. Captain Hook apparently saw my dismay and said, "You may be scared, but you're braver than any of my men. Not that you have a choice. But I know you won't die up there. Here put these on, love." The captain hands me a belt with a sword and a bracelet, nothing adorning. He's wearing the same one, so I ask, "What are the bracelets for?"
"Means we're engaged, Swan." He pauses to see the look on my face and then says, "They will allow us to climb the beanstalk. And once we get up there, don't try anything."
"But we're engaged, right?" Emma grabs the beanstalk and starts climbing . "This is a real man, boys!". She hears from below her, and eventually Captain Hook is beside her and the ground far below.
"Who is that picture of? The one you're always staring at?" The pirate asks, filling the silence.
"You have been spying on me. Well, I guess you don't care. It is my son. No one but you, me, and the doctor knows he is mine. I gave him up because his father told me he loved someone else when he got back from his trip with his father. So Baelfire, his father, doesn't even know about him. I don't know who his family is now, I don't know what his name is. But I had to. I cared about Bae too much to ruin his new love. He isn't with her now though, he isn't with anyone. But I haven't told him."
"Baelfire? Rumplestiltskin's son?" The captain says after a few seconds.
"Do you know him?" Emma asks, puzzled.
"We met in Neverland and I raised him on my ship, protecting him from the lost boys. I was in love with his mother, you see, and no matter how much I hated his father for killing Milah, I owed it to her. Then I had to make a deal, and when I just decided to give him up, The Dark One showed up on my ship with a princess. They eventually made amens, and I didn't kill the crocodile for Bae's sake."
"He never talked about how his father got him to return. Or where he was before. But, I guess I know now. So you are all really old then?"
"You're 56, milady. I'm 300. Seems like a fitting match."
"Still hitting on me?"
"I'm a pirate."
I smile, "I know. Are you still in communication with Bae?"
"No. But I don't think I could keep this from him, if that's what you are asking." Hook looks over at me with knowing eyes, and then to the ground. You could barely see anything from where we were.
"Please don't."
"Princess Emma, he deserves to know."
"Just call me Emma or Swan, that's nice. And please. He broke my heart. And I'm the one that gave birth. Please, Hook." I plead as we reach the top.
"Alright, Swan. Now we are here. Let's get the gold, but be careful. There is a giant left. Be careful, love. I still need you for ransom." Hook states. I nod and sigh, following him around as he stuffs gold in our pouches. Then something catches my eye, and I pull the captain back.
He looks at me, annoyed. "I think I just saw the giant," I whisper.
His eyes widen and he looks around the corner at the sleeping giant.
"Yup. That's a giant alright," he says looking back at myself, grinning. "That's an interesting pendant around his neck.". He starts to walk away, out of my grasp, but I pull him back.
"What are you crazy?" I whisper-yell at him. "He has giant ears and will probably hear us making no sound ten feet behind him. Just get your gold and come on. My parents will pay whatever you want for me."
He pulls away and puts two fingers to his head, clenching his teeth, "Have you forgotten who you're dealing with? I am your captor. I have the power here. I don't care what you think. I am not you're friend. Goodbye." He walks away and quietly up t the giant.
"It's you're funeral that I wont be attending. But all your crew will." I whisper into the huge house.
He stops for a moment but keeps walking, as if just to defy me. When he reaches the giant he grabs the treasures around his neck and walks back towards me, his arms wide in accomplishment.
My eyes then widen at the site behind him. "Captain Hook! Giant!" I whisper at him urgently as the giant wakes up. He looks over his soldier and then starts running back. When he reaches me, he grabs my hand and tells me to run, cutting me out of my trance. As soon as the beanstalk is in sight, a shadow covers our view. Hook stops first, and I try to keep on, but his iron grip pulls me back to him.
We look up to the giant. He looks angry. Enraged even. "GIVE IT BACK, HUMANS."
The Captain smiles at him and starts to run, dragging me along. When we reach the beanstalk, he jumps. Me, thinking I was going to die, try to save my breath. But then I hear him yell at me to grab onto the "bloody plant."
I run my hand along the stalk first, hurting every part of my body. And then when we slow down enough, I grab a stem firmly, and the arm holding Hook jerks and I scream into my shirt as he climbs up by me, hook first.
"You okay, love?" He asks after a minute of deep breaths.
"My arm is either dislocated or broken. I don't know if I can climb down." I say trying to move my left arm. I cringe in pain.
"Alright, come on then," Hook says climbing sideways towards her and putting his arm under hers.
"But that's your only hand. Can you climb with just your hook?" I ask as he looks down, calculating.
He looks up at me, and I hold his gaze as he half grins at me, "Do you doubt me, love?"
