I was 6 or 7 years old when it first happened.
Me and my mother went to visit my grandma at the hospital only to find our uncle, his family, and our grandfather already there crying. My mother was speechless and was silently sobbing.
Being so young at that time, I didn't know that my grandma just died and my family was mourning. I held my grandma's hand and was shaking her to wake up.
Suddenly, I was feeling a burning sensation in my chest like it's beating so fast that fire may burst out in any moment. I couldn't move on my own will but my body is squirming. My eyes started to open slowly showing a ceiling that I recognize-it was the ceiling in my grandma's hospital room.
At this point in time, I was beyond confused.
What's happening?
Why am I in grandma's bed?
It hurts, it hurts, it hurts so bad...
Then everything went black.
I woke up in the car on the way home. I was in the passenger seat and my mom noticed me waking up. She said I murmured that I was sleepy at the hospital then dozed off after holding my grandma's hand.
For many years, I brushed it off as a hazy hallucination probably brought by my fatigue or hunger. That was until I went to high school.
It was the first day of school and much to my luck, I got lost in between buildings which made me bump into Hayes, my now bestfriend. I helped him up when suddenly I was staring into the blurry faces of three guys. I then felt that my body was being beaten with sticks, my body was beaten black and blue.
Then everything went black once more.
When I came to, still holding on to Hayes hand, I saw cuts and bruises all over his body. That was the moment that made me realize what I have and what I can do.
