(Shadow's P.O.V.)
(Y/n) shot through the trees as usual on the bright summer day, the golden sun shimmering on her beautiful (H/C) fur. I stared up at her from my spot on a low hanging branch. (Name), to me, was the most beautiful, elegant creature I had ever seen.
The other boys on the team suspect I have a crush on her, though I'm not sure if I even do. My thoughts were interrupted as she swung down in front of me, tail wrapped around the branch above us.
"Lookie, Shadow! I'm a possum!" she cheered in her sweet voice, that cute smile on her face. I replied with a small laugh and a smile, wondering when she was going to fall. We stared at each other for a few moments; until her tail finally gave in.
She fell into my open arms, a small blush appearing on her face. "You sure are," I mumbled. Because of this, she slapped me with her tail lightly, pouncing to another branch. I chuckled at her childlike behavior. I looked at her trying not to smile, but failing miserably. "Follow me, I have something fun to show you," I called. Her ears pricked up at this.
"Fun? You? I am going to glomp you, okay?" she said, descending to lower branches at an alarmingly excited rate. As she got to the lowest one, she aimed herself towards me. "Oh no no no wai-"she cut me off by jumping on me, planting her hands on my chest. I look up at her, an unamused expression on my face. She climbed off me, standing and then helping me up with a forceful yank. "Sorry, I couldn't help it," she apologized.
"I can't breathe," I replied, exasperated. Ignoring this, she asked "So where are we going?" Realizing the subject that was at hand before, I slid my arm around her shoulder, replying "I won't tell you, but you'll like it."
(Reader's P.O.V.)
I walked with Shadow for a long time. I was kind of scared, for this hedgehog did hold a dark spirit, though he allured me. One side of me wanted to avoid him at all costs, yet the other side wanted to stay by him no matter what. I foolishly listened to the second side most times. I can't help it and I had to admit it, if only to myself, I had a little bit of a crush on him.
These thoughts cross my mind often, along with memories of Shadow. Getting caught in this web of thought, I barely noticed we had passed through areas familiar to me from my childhood. I turned to see a wide, lush field of (fav/flower). Many high trees lined the meadow. I turned my attention to the sky. It was a light grey sky, filled with large stars. In the center was a mountainous moon. Engulfing it was the sun, bright, but not blinding. I turned to Shadow, my mouth open.
"Do you like it?" he asked, a small smile appearing on his face. As I stared at him, a wide grin crossed my face as well. This was a replica of the field I knew when I was young. This brought up a question I feared to know the answer to.
"How do you know what my field looks like?" I questioned, the grin falling from both our expressions.
"I spent all of my spare time looking for it. I- it was in a dream I had once. I was standing in the middle of it... next to you. Somehow I knew I had to bring you to it," He replied. My ears flattened, blush forming on my cheeks.
"... Shadow... Do you love me?"
"Yes, very much (Y/N)," he replied. I looked down, showing sadness.
(Shadow's P.O.V.)
I stared at (Y/N), stunned. A soft wind swept across the field, blowing the tall grass surrounding us. The current of air also grabbed a tear from (Y/N)'s shimmering eyes. I noticed the tear and crept closer to her.
"Is something wrong?" I asked, nervous of the answer. She stared down at the grass, silent. After a long moment, she whispered, "I'm afraid you will leave me, like everyone else."
My eyes widened in surprise. I felt a feeling I hadn't felt since Maria left. "Is this what true love feels like?" I asked myself slowly. "Yes, I think it is." I bounded my arms around her, feeling her soft fur against mine.
"I will never leave you. Not even in death." I spoke softly. The sun-moon fell slowly and silently. I lifted my head, gently placing my lips on hers.
"I love you, (Y/N), and I will never do anything to hurt you."
