Hoe Don't Do It

Long ago, two races ruled over the Earth: HUMANS, and MONSTERS. One day, war broke out between the two races. After a long battle, the humans were victorious. They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell. Many years later, MT. Ebott, 201X,

It was said that those who climb the mountain never return.

Then, a human child named Frisk ventured up the mountain side, for whatever reason, and came across a hole in the earth. Moving forward to take a look, the child tripped and fell straight into the gaping maw.

Six months later.....

"And you say magic is infused in your DNA?" You asked curiously. The thin glass vial's clear liquid slid around, microscopic miniature glittering chunks sticking to the sides and clumping together so that you had to shake it up, like a curdled milkshake rotting in the sun. As a scientist, you had never satisfied your hunger for learning, which was good for your job, but frustrating as hell at the same time. You wanted to know more, have the answers for anything and everything. If not, you'd slowly go batshit insane. It absolutely grinds your gears not to know anything.

"Yes. Every monster's DNA has a unique magic pattern allowing them to use magic in battle, or with normal everyday activities." Your partner Alphys was a member of the monster race that had emerged from underground six months ago. Not many had welcomed them at first, and some still didn't, but it was required by law for monsters to still have equal rights as humans. Honestly, you didn't care if they looked different. You thanked them for giving you something else to study and explore, more questions to find answers for.

"Interesting." You mused. To you, the DNA looked like the liquid in a teenager's phone case that had glitter rain to the bottom if flipped around, not the structure of monster life itself. "It's a pity that we humans lack the structure in our DNA to wield magic ourselves." You mused quietly. You heard Alphys shift as she cleaned her workspace. "Not entirely. As I'm sure you've heard King Asgore say, humans once locked monsters under Mt. Ebott with magic a long time ago. Humans were able to use magic back then, but perhaps without the need to use it so much anymore, they began to stop practicing magic and eventually lost the power to do so."

"I see." You regarded your friend and partner with a smile. "I suppose it's just a product of evolution. What would humans even need magic for anyway?" You said half jokingly. The truth was, you really wanted to experiment with the monster DNA. Imagining humans with startling magnificent powers was mind boggling. Perhaps people could float, or summon weapons or even fly! The possibilities were almost endless. For what seemed like a few minutes, you wondered briefly what your own powers might be- if you had any.

"(Name)," Alphys said breaking you out of your thoughts. You tilted your head at your reptile friend. "Yes?" She took a deep breath. "I can tell you're interested, and.... And so am I. Maybe... M-maybe we can.... Try something?" You looked into the eyes of the reptilian scientist. You felt your heart flutter at the thought of a new experiment, and you smiled. "Well, of course!"
