Ah, Youngster Joey. That was my name, back in the day. The kid with the "weak" Rattata. The kid who's mistaken for the other kid who really likes shorts. Now that I'm the champion, Rattata pick rates in many parties have greatly increased. But, even they cannot defeat me, for I have the top percentage of Rattata.
Let me tell you my story, how I came to be, and how my Rattata and I, changed my title from "Youngster Joey", to "Champion Joey".
I was excited, on that day. I was gonna become a trainer! An underaged one, that is, but that only restricts me from receiving additional rewards from when you just start out. You see, people are rewarded for becoming a trainer at the age of 10, receiving an edge against other trainers, as these trainers also receive a starter pokémon of the region, which becomes far more powerful later on than most other pokémon. They also receive 5 pokéballs, enough to gather a full team, if used carefully.
I, on the other hand, only receive a pokédex and one pokéball, to either bring a pet pokémon from the house, or get a lucky catch in the wild.
In the end, after I collected my trainer items, since I had no pet pokémon to take with me, I decided to try a lucky catch in the woods. You can guess which pokémon I got.
Flashback
"Hm, now where can I get my very first pokémon..." Joey saw a shuffle in one of the nearby bushes.
"There! I'll catch that one!" Joey wildly throws the pokéball he was holding into the bush. "Come on, come on..." Joey bites his lip, "This is my only chance to catch a pokémon, or I'll need to get my parent's help."
"No, I need to do this myself. I can't let my parents baby me any longer!" A ding was heard from the bushes, making Joey jump. "Yes! Yes! My very first pokémon! I can't wait to see what it is."
As Joey walks toward the bush, he starts guessing what's inside. "I wonder, maybe it's a Fearow! Or, maybe a Charizard! Yes! Oh, or, maybe I got a Legendary instead! That would be great!"
Joey grabs the pokéball from the bush, and he opens it, revealing what was inside. "Tatta?" It said.
End flashback
As you can expect, I was... disappointed. My only pokéball, wasted on a Rattata? Was it some sort of joke? Did somebody plant that Rattata there just before I threw the ball? Even so, I never gave up. Legendary Pokémon or not, I was still going to battle with it.
After some time with my Rattata, with some early battles to test it, I knew something was special about this Rattata. I knew it was top percentage, from the way it looks, how it battles, and it's overwhelming strength over the other Rattatas, and I was determined to train that Rattata to truly be the best.
Now, you might be thinking, "Those were just your childish goals again, weren't they?" And the truth is, you're partially right. I knew that Rattata was special, and that's certainly true, but I believed it would be easy, and that's where I was wrong. My journey was filled with difficult hurdles, nothing like the normal trainers encounter. But I prevailed, and this is my story.
