"Jean."
...
"Jean,"
...
"Jean!"
"What the-!" I exclaimed as I jumped, falling of the sofa where I was previously asleep in the process. I looked up from my place on the floor to see Levi stood in his night clothes - a simple green T and black sweat pants - holding two mugs. Sitting on the couch, he handed me a mug with coffee in and crossed one leg over the other.
"Be quiet, Hanji's still asleep." He sat, sipping his tea and flicking through T.V channels with the remote. I just looked at him and climbed back onto the sofa.
"Don't worry, you know she's awake when Blondie starts playing." He smiled slightly.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, thoroughly confused.
"Hanji puts Blondie on when she wakes up, helps her get ready for the day apparently, I'm not complaining, Blondie's music is actually okay,"
"Right." I sat next to Levi watching as he put Mock The Week on, a funny show for someone who never laughs. I ran a hand through my bed hair and drank my coffee.
"So what are you doing about this?" Levi suddenly asked as Dara O'Brien introduced the guests on the telly.
"About what?" I asked, side eyeing him.
"About moving in here. I know Hanji seemed a bit sceptical but it's only because she doesn't want to tear you away from your mother," he took another sip from his tea. "She may not seem like it but she's brilliant mother material," unless my eyes her deceiving me, Levi smiled as he said that.
"Yeah, I know... She's already more of a mother to me than mine is," I sighed, downing my coffee. "I wouldn't mind moving in here but you guys already work so much without having to keep an eye on me at home too and I don't want to burst into your family you've got going on." I looked at Levi to see him scowling at me. Scary.
He spoke through a frown, his grey eyes surrounded by bags looked into my amber ones. "Firstly, Jean, how old are you?"
"17,"
"then we don't need to 'look after' you," He said, putting emphasis on the look after. "Secondly, we work because we want to. I met Hanji in university and she's always been a hard worker. She studied constantly, she enjoys working, Jean. It gives her something to occupy her mind." He paused to make sure Hanji wasn't awake by listening out for music. She was still asleep and so he continued. "As for me, I like working because it lets me spend time with her. I studied with her in uni so working with her like this is exactly what I want to do. Lastly, you're part of our family, Jean. We care about you like you were our son,"
"Exactly, Jean-bo,"
Me and Levi both jumped at Hanji's sudden appearance in the doorway. She stood in a teal blue sweater and shorts, obviously in her PJs too.
"Oh, Hanji, what happened to Blondie mornings?" Levi asked as his wife sat on the sofa next to him, earning herself a kiss on the cheek.
"I thought Jean might still be asleep so I decided against it but obviously you woke him up," She smiled, ruffling my hair like I was kid.
"Anyway, back to what Levi was saying, you're more than welcome to move in here, I just think you should speak to your parents about it first. Sure you and your mum don't get along but what about your dad?" She asked with a smile that instantly dissipated as I began to frown.
"He lives in Sina with his wife." I deadpanned.
"Oh, right, okay..." Hanji stuttered.
"Are you going to speak to your mother or not?" Levi interrupted.
"I'd rather not," I spoke.
"Well then Hanji, looks like Jean's moving in." Levi smiled to his wife. In return Hanji went back to her usual eccentric self, jumping around the living room spouting nonsense about a house warming party and some guy called Erwin and someone called Petra. As soon as she said that name, Levi stood up and put a hand over Hanji's mouth.
"We're not inviting Petra round here." It was rare for him to use such a harsh tone with Hanji but she didn't look hurt or anything, just a little surprised.
"Why not?" She asked as Levi pulled his hand away.
"Just no," He replied, sitting back down next to me. After he sat down Hanji clapped and put her hands on her hips.
"Well, I've got to get ready for a meeting so I'll see you boys later,"
"Is it about the event?" I asked, hope sparking my posture to improve.
"Could be," She winked and left the room, planting a kiss on Levi's head before climbing the stairs. When his wife left, Levi let out a long sigh.
"What happened with this Petra person?" I asked, a smirk tugging at my lips.
"We're going out." Levi said calmly, rolling his eyes.
