Amelia's POV
I groaned silently as a loud beeping echoed around my empty bedroom. I didn't have much other then a small twin sized bed for myself and my brother and a small dresser for my few outfits and my alarm clock. I sat up, the beeping starting to give me a head ache, getting out of bed and tucking my brother back in. I glared at my alarm clock as I shut it off, clearly annoyed with its constant beeping.
Walking over to my dresser I pulled out a long sleeved black shirt and some well worn jeans. Getting dressed quickly before looking at the time, holding back a gasp as I saw it, 7:27 AM I need to get Luke dressed and out of here before dad wakes up! I thought hurriedly, running over and shaking my brother awake, "What.....?" He asked, turning back over to face the wall. I shook him again, this time more hurriedly, I knew he must be tired, last night was the first time he had ever shifted. "Luke, get up. We only have thirty-three minutes to pack a light bag and get all the way to the forest before dad wakes up." I said to him, making him sit up and yawn. I felt horrible about making him get up this early, but I promised mom that once Luke had shifted I would take him and get out of here as fast as possible. My mother had 'died' in a war between rouges and their pack, but really she just used that as a cover up. She told me before she left for battle that she wouldn't come back and that she would see me again one day.
I snapped out of my thoughts as my bother poked my arm, looking around I realized he was up and dressed already. "Pack a bag of two or three sets of clothes and bring something that you need." I informed him. My brother was smart, in fact, he was one of the smartest people in his first-grade class. Watching as he raced off to grab a duffel bag, turning back to my own drawers, pulling out the rest of my clothes, which was only a few shirts and other pair of jeans. Stuffing the rest of the clothes in my clothes into my own duffel bag before grabbing a very tiny box. My mother had given it to me before she left, though I never wore it because Dad kill me if I did. Placing the box gently in the bag, I turned to my brother noticing he was waiting at the bedroom door with an anxious look on his face. I understood how he felt completely, and I also knew if they got caught, they would be killed.
I walked over to my brother, grabbing his hand after throwing my bag over my shoulder. This was the first rebellious act I had done in a long time, six years to be exact. Leading my brother into the freezing halls of our house, I shut my bedroom door quietly. Rounding the corner of the hall way and entering the living room, I gulped, knowing that soon they would have to shift and run to the forest. They would be running for their lives, and whats worse, neither of them had any clue on where pack territory stood and what was neutral land.
Opening the front door, the cool autumn air hit me, making me stumble slightly and goose bumps spread up my body. Looking down at my brother, closing the door silently. Walking behind the house, where the open back yard lead dangerously into a forest filled with mist. Bending down next to him I started to undress my little brother. It wasn't something that was very odd to me, I was his main caretaker after all. I had raised him sense he was just a tiny baby. Smiling as I put his clothes into his duffel bag, "Just image yourself as a wolf" I explained, remembering this was only his second time shifting.
Popping a cracking sounds filled the silent dawn air as my little bother's body shifted into a small pup-like dusty blonde wolf with bright blue eyes. Smiling down at him I pulled his duffel bag over his body, though it almost drug on the ground. "Go into the forest. I'll be there soon." I told him, to which he nodded and took off into the mist filled forest.
I never minded much about my clothes, but then again I never thought that I would be running away from my father either. Stripping in the backyard of my house was quite nerve-wrecking, wondering if the neighbors was her. Finally she clothes her eyes, pops and cracks filled the air before she opened her eyes to find herself standing on all fours.
Picking up my duffel bag in my mouth I ran after my brother, spotting him a few yards away, seemingly frozen. Tilting my head in confusion only to be stopped as I heard snarls and growls. My eyes widened, and without thinking, I ran forwards, leaping in front of my bother, letting out a fearsome growl at the attackers, who were truly only protecting what was theirs.
I thought we were free as one of the attackers, the leader obviously, padded into the trees. But what happened next made me more scared, a tall, bulky man emerged from the trees in only shorts, he held out two shirts and growled out a order, "Shift." The man snarled.
/// Author's Note ///
That's the first chapter! It took me nearly three days to write and I can say, I admire all the other writers a lot more now, I never knew how much time it took to write a book and now I do. But I couldn't wish for anything else because I love writing! And this book has been on my mind for a while now.
Anyway, see you peoples later!
