Girou grabs his things and runs out the door. He's already prepped for today. Though he didn't shower or comb his hair, he did brush his teeth. He bursts out the house excited to finally leave the house for the best reason ever. His father finally agreed to let him go to the nearby guzei (bridge). Girou is only 11 but his Father trusts him.... as long as he goes with his older sister who lives with Girou's mother. Girou first caught sight of the bright red color bridge when on the way to school. As he made direct eye contact with it, his lit up in excitement. From that day he would beg his father to let him visit it. His father would agree as long as he did his homework first. However, by the time Girou would finish his work, the sun would always be down and it would be too late at night for him to go. This didn't bother him too much, just seeing it as he biked his way to school was good enough until he could go.

As he gets on his bicycle, Girou hears a voice call out his name. "Girou! Hey Girou! Where are you going? You wanna hang out today?" It's a young girl with red overalls and black hair is sitting on a rock next to tree waving to him. It's Minami a girl from his class. She smiling widly happy to see him. Girou nervously tries to walk his bicycle at his side faster. Minami gets up and beginsto run over to him continuing to yell "Hey! Did you hear me? Where are you going? I wanna come! Please let me come!" Girou looks over to her and sighs, "I'm sorry I wanna go alone." He wasn't very close to Minami. He didn't hate her but he preffered being alone and Minami seemed to always want to bother him. "Come on pleeeaaase! You've gotta have more than one friend than that little shadow of yours!"  She points behind Girou. It's a black cat with golden eyes. Girou turns around and smiles. She wasn't wrong this cat was his friend, and he loved her dearly. Ironically, he felt black cats caused good luck. He saw their dark fur to be very alluring. It made him want to follow them wherever they went... even if it were dangerous.

He looks back up at Minami. "I'm heading to my adventure alone. Please understand, I'm sorry." He picks up the cat, sits it in the bicycle's basket and start walking away while pushing the bike along by the handles.
