The Power

Ch: 1 A normal day

Today was uneventful as usual I woke up and brushed my fire like red hair and teeth, and then I got dressed and headed down stairs. In the kitchen I noticed a small sheet of paper on the counter. It must be from mom I thought to myself. The note said "sorry! I won't be home again till tomorrow! Big meeting with the boss so call me if you need anything and be good while I'm gone. -love Mom." Mom is always away from home and by now I'm used to it.

I take the long way to school because knowing my luck I would be ambushed by a group of people from my school. I'm always getting bullied by everyone at school and it's always for some stupid reason like they think I'm too quiet or they don't like the colour of my hair! Duh!!

The only one person who doesn't think I'm weird is best friend Atlas. I still remember when I first met him. I was in grade 4 at the time, and I was sitting alone in the hallway when he appeared out of nowhere. "Can you believe it" he said "the teacher wouldn't let me eat my snack in the classroom!" I thought he was crazy! He started talking to me as if he knew me his whole life, and he kept talking till finally he said "I'm Atlas what's your name?" "I'm Eden" I said quietly "cool name" 'WAIT you don't think I'm weird? Everyone does!" He smiled and said "no why would I think you're weird?" We have been best friends ever since.

"Hey Eden!" I turned to see Atlas running to me with glasses falling off his face again. "Your late again Atlas! I even waited for you at home.' "Sorry Eden my sister just did not want to wake up on time" "That's no excuse!" I said while walking away.

The rest of the day was boring and nothing happened 'til I made the mistake of not watching where I was going in the hallway. I bumped into this really big and tall guy. I fell to the ground and he looked at me with a disgusted look on his face. "Oh no it touched me. Now, I have to clean myself!" Everyone nearby started whispering. "He touched Eden...Poor Venn! I kind of wish Eden would leave the school already...yeah no one wants him here." I was already use to being bullied, and I didn't care anymore.

I went home taking the long way back. All alone, I did my homework quietly with tears falling down my face. (Just because I am used to it does not mean that it doesn't hurt).

I noticed the time, it was 4:30.  Any second Atlas would walk in the door...1...2...3... "Hey Eden! You want pizza?" "Wow Atlas you're on time for once!" I said. Atlas always knows how to make me feel better. We ate pizza and played video games the whole night. It's funny now that I think about it, because today was so normal in my life that I would have never guessed what would happen next...
