I woke up to no music, no sound, no movement. My entire cabin was asleep, exhausted from last night, from what all had happened.

I glanced at Kendra’s bed. The bed was enveloped in blacks and greys. I could really only see her hair to be a part of her body.

I stood to look up at Layla’s smiling face. She’s dreaming about Charlie, I couldn’t help but think.

I got up, neglecting to look at Jane’s bed. I got my clothes and took a shower. It was nice not to hear so many girls using the bathroom at once, trying to put on make up or straighten or curl their hair. I got dressed then stepped outside.

Few people were walking around the camp, and I noticed a red head on the dock watching the sunset. It was Jane.

I hurried down to the hills, bumps and through the people in my way to get to her. She was so quiet and unnoticed. She almost seemed like an illusion with vibrant red hair.

“Jane,” I said to her.

Jane jumped and ended up in the water. The first thing I saw was her journal bob to the surface, then her.

“India!” she yelled angrily.

I stared for a moment and didn’t know whether to run or to help her out of the lake. She pulled herself and the notebook out of the water and started toward me.

And my first instinct was to run.

I rushed past more people who had come out of their cabins and to the trial that led up the side of the lake.

Person I don’t know.

Person I don’t know.

Person I don’t want to know.

Drew Carl was the guy that I ran into on my sprint up the trail. He looked at me. “Watch where you’re going!” he yelled.

“Sorry!” I said, and I tried to continue on.

Footsteps followed behind me closer. How fast could Jane run?

I kept on, tired but not wanting Jane to attack me. Wait, why would she attack me? Maybe just for ruining her journal, but I could face that. I stopped to breath and the footsteps caught up to me.

“Aren’t you India Mary?”

I looked up at the face of Drew Carl. He was one of the most handsome guys I had ever seen other than the guy I liked. Riley.

“Yeah. What do you want, Drew?” I said with a harsh tone.

“Woah! What’s with the tone? And how do you know my name?”

“It’s a long story,” I said to him as I stood up right.

Drew gave an eye roll. “Who are you running from?”

“Jane Caskey.”

“Now I understand how you know me,” Drew said with a laugh. “She’s old news to me, India. I don’t care that you’re friends with her.”

“Oh, and you care about a girl you just met?” I questioned.

“It depends.” He shoved his hands in his khaki pockets. He was standing in a way that made him attractive. I didn’t want to recognize it, but I did.

“India!” Jane’s voice echoed in the forest. My heart jumped into my throat and I saw Drew smile.

He grabbed my wrist. “Come on!”

He pulled me along. We ran on and on and on. We took a separate path up to a hiking trail. We both knew that we would lose Jane and we kept running until I couldn’t stand up anymore.

I collapsed on the ground, gasping for air. Drew slumped down against a tree, the tree pulling the back of his shirt up as he panted and wiped the sweat from his waxed eyebrows.

“Why did you come?” I said, after semi-catching-my-breath.

“I kept you away from Jane. Be thankful.” Drew had attitude. An attractive attitude at that.

I rolled my eyes and looked at the trail, as if waiting for Jane to break through the brush and come to attack me or something. Or maybe she had given up by now.

I glanced back at Drew again, who stripped his shirt off to wipe the sweat from his chest. He was hot.

“That’s normal.”

“You like it, India. Don’t deny.”

“How do you know who I am?” I asked, standing up and fanning myself with my hand. That didn’t work at all.

He pulled his grey, skin tight shirt back on. “I’m friends with Riley Darse.”

Riley. My very close friend.

“Do you two, like, live together?” I asked quickly.

Like, yeah!”

I rolled my eyes and let out a frustrated sigh. Drew grinned and he started walking on, continuing on the trail.

“Where are you going?” I called after him.

“Follow me and you’ll find out.”

I sighed and turned my head back to go to the main trail. But my feet went toward Drew. I was going to him.

“So…” I said awkwardly.

Drew didn’t look awkward at all. He looked confident, strong and just attractive. He and Jane had dated?

“Know a lot about Jane?” Drew asked me, not giving me a glance or even bothering to move toward me. He kept walking, me at his side.

“Enough that I’m friends with her.”

“Obviously you know we dated. You found out about her journal thingy, huh?” Drew said. He knew a lot about her, that he still remembered from them dating. That surprised me, and freaked me out a little bit.

“Yeah. Our friend, Kendra, read out something about you, so I know about you.”

“Oh, really?” Drew looked at me, his eyebrows cocked in interest. “What about me?”

“Nothing you would care about.” I gave attitude back.

Drew shrugged carelessly. “Whatever you say, India. You’re still walking with me. Remember?”

Dang it! I was!

“I should really leave, you know? Let Jane attack me.” I started walking back toward where we had come in.

“Can’t go that way. It’s a one way trail, India,” Drew said.

I stopped in my tracks and looked back at him. And before I knew it, I was ahead of him. “You sure are a kill joy, huh?”

~~~
Drew and I exited that trail finally at lunch time. I was so surprised by how long that trail was, or how long Drew had lead me on. I was sweaty, tired and wanting to get away from his sexy annoyance.
I walked out with Drew, just to see Riley and Jane sitting on the dock together.
