Tobias slowly wades through the darkness and flashing beams of light, the low rave music playing overhead. Gun posed and ready to shoot, Tobias' eyes scanned his surroundings. Hard footsteps became louder as they descended the incline from the top level of the arena.
It was Chris' idea to come here, and he dragged a disgruntled Tobias along with him.
"I'm not going by myself, I need a loyal right hand!" Chris pleaded with Tobias. "Okay, alright, fine, I'll go!" Tobias submitted after Chris flipped Tobias over his shoulder, settling with a half dressed Tobias to go lazer-tagging with him.
They were both on the red team, much to Tobias' pleasure as it was his favorite color. As the two put on their colored vests, another person came up to Tobias and started a conversation, a blue team member.
"Hey, first time playing?" The blue said.
"Uh... yea, kinda." Tobias responded, clearly not interested in talking.
The guy then rested an arm on the rack where the vests had been rested as well. "Well, if you want to switch teams, I'd be happy to help you play." The blue said with a half cocked grin. Tobias raised an eyebrow at him, a cloud of unease above him.
"No- no thank you, I came with somebody." Tobias said, taking a step back.
"Oh... okay then. I'll see you inside." The blue went back to his side, a slight look of hurt on his face went away as quick as it came when the safety video started to blare from the near TV.
Tobias didn't notice Chris eyeing the blue that had talked to him, nor did the blue himself. "Don't touch what's mine." This phrase kept repeating itself through Chris' head.
The game was in full swing now, a full 10 minutes of the near pitch black room, laser guns in hand, the occasional sound of someone's vest deactivating and then reactivating again.
Tobias quickly hid inside a crevice of a wall, watching as a blue team member passed him. Tobias quickly shot the back of the vest, the blues vest deactivating. He looked around for the cause, but was unable to see Tobias.
When the blue finally walked away, Tobias emerged from his hiding spot, a smirk on lips, he was starting to enjoy himself.
And then he ran head on into someone. It was him, the guy in blue from the entrance room. He stepped back, startled at the sudden impact. Tobias fell on his ass, his gun clattering to the ground, but not to far as there was wire from it to the vest. Tobias hadn't noticed yet who he'd bumped into, he was too busy catching the air that was knocked out of him. When he did finally look up, and his eyes met the others, he swallowed the lump that was stuck in his throat.
"Uh-I- I'm sorry, I-uh- wasn't watching where I was going." Tobias stood up slowly, a nervous laugher escaping his lips. He wiped his mouth, the blue vest got him pretty good when he crashed into it. Pulling his hand away, there was a little blood on his fingers.
"You busted your lip." The blue said.
"It's nothing." Tobias said nervously, taking a step back, his heels feeling the wall behind him.
"You're bleeding quite a bit, actually." He said as he took a couple steps closer to Tobias. This, of course, made Tobias take another step away, his back making contact with the wall. They were out of site any cameras, a blind spot.
"Let me just - get that for you." He said, gently grabbing Tobias' chin, and lifting it. Tobias was frozen in fear as the guys lips got closer and closer his. At the last second, Tobias pushed him away as hard as he could.
Tobias could see the anger in this mans eyes. He made an attempt to run past him, almost making it before his forearm was grabbed the man, trying to pull him back into the small room. Thinking quickly, Tobias slammed his foot onto the mans knee, forcing him to let him go. But Tobias never did have good balance, and was sent crashing into a wall, his head cracking back into it. He fell onto the ground in a heap, holding his head as if it were going to explode. The sound echoed through the stadium. Within seconds, the lights were on.
"Right here." A girl said aloud, earning the presence of every other player gathering around, including a very concerned looking Chris.
"Tobias, hey, look at me." Chris, now at Tobias' side, whispered as he tried to see his face. Tobias slowly moved his arms from his face, and sat up. Chris, more violently than he meant to, grabbed Tobias by his chin, inspecting the blood that dripped from his lip.
"What happened?" Chris asked, wincing.
Tobias looked at the other guy who laid on the floor in pain, holding his knee, his dark eyes spewing hatred at Tobias.
"He tried to kiss me." Tobias said, voice cracking slightly. This statement caused everyone to eye the man on the floor, their eyes a mix of confusion and anger, as if they all had the same thought: "the audacity of this pervert."
The man, using the wall, stood up slowly, still holding his knee in pain.
"Now, listen, it's not -" He started but was cut off by Chris' fist hitting him square in the nose. The man was once again on his ass, now holding his knee AND nose.
With a gentler approach, that to be honest scared the group who stood around, Chris helped Tobias up, keeping his hand on the back of his head and pressed into his chest.
Chris then left with Tobias, making a beeline for the nearest hospital. This one was pretty long and there will more than likely be a part two :) -m
