I bounced on my toes, zipping up my jacket to my chin. God, how does Australia get so cold? I heard laughter, and turned around to see Rachel walking up to the bus stop with her boyfriend, who I've never bothered to learn the name of. I shot a quick glare at him before tracing the crack in the sidewalk with my shoe. Soon enough, the bus screeched to a stop in front of us, and I scurried on quickly, looking for Calum.

I saw him towards the back, scrolling through his phone. "Hey," I said, setting my backpack on the floor and sliding in beside him. He didn't even acknowledge me; he just continued to play his phone. I sighed, and took out a piece of paper. "colum sux hard" I wrote, and stuck it on the seat in front of him. Calum looked at it and glared at me. "What?" he whined. "you missed band practice yesterday," I informed him. "No, you serious?" he asked sarcastically. "You haven't shown up at all this week? We're having another one tonight. Show up or we'll find another bassist," I threatened. Calum just rolled his eyes and sat back in his seat. At least I knew he'd be fine by second period, when he missed half of first to go get coffee.

While we were talking, I hadn't noticed Michael climb on the bus. "Oh hey," I said, nodding at him. "How fantastic of you to finally acknowledge me," Michael said sarcastically. "BitchSOS much?" I mumbled, but he just rolled his eyes. "GOOD MORNING!" Ashton yelled, sitting down next to Michael. "God, you're annoying in the morning," Michael muttered. Ashton turned to me with a slightly hurt expression on his face. "Michael and Calum are on their man periods," I whispered loudly to Ashton. He laughed, and Calum and Michael turned to glare at me again. "I'll skip third to go grab you guys some tampons, alright?" I said as the bus pulled to a stop. Calum slammed his hand against the seat and stormed off the bus, not looking back once. Michael just glared at me again before following Calum, Ashton trailing behind the two of them.

"Are they pissed at you or something?" A voice from beside me asked. I jumped and spun around to see the person speaking to me was Rachel. She giggled at my reaction. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you," she said. "It's fine. To answer your question, no they're not mad, they're just moody in the mornings. Except for Ashton, he's just always happy. But I enjoy messing with the other two to get a reaction," I explained. "Friend of the Year award goes to Luke Hemmings," she joked, and I smiled.

"Hey kids! Get off the bus!" Laura, the bus driver, shouted to us. "Sorry!" I said, scurrying out. "Can I go over to yours tonight?" Rachel asked as we walked towards the school. :Sure," I replied as we walked in, going our separate ways.

Here's the thing. Rachel and I are best friends. We just have different cliques at school. She's in the grunge/punk-ish group, and I'm in the nerdy group. Those two groups don't mix, so we usually ignore each other at school.

Which sucks, because I'm completely in love with her.
