Day 0
Jack woke up feeling... different.
'Where am I ' He thinks to himself
He was on a school trip to DC!
But, he wasn't where he remembered falling asleep.
He turned over to see the back of Quinn's head. Jack sat up and the lights in the room turned on, revealing an unadorned concrete rom chock full of his 8th grade class. Everyone in the room started to stir.
They all stumbled to the door, wondering if this was just a dream. It wasn't. The next room had a large table with enough chairs as there were people. There was a Mac computer on it with the words "sit down" on the screen. They sat. Once they were all seated a voice started to play, seeming to come from the walls.
"Hello everyone, and welcome to your new and final home. My name is Mr. Scarlett and I will be your host for your short stay here. Sadly, one of you is a murderer, and they will kill one of you every day. Nobody will be killed today, though."
"Let us look at the list of our occupants shall we. So we have...
Jack
Ally
Nate
Ceci
Zoë
Kelten
Brendan
Yara
Thea
Quinn
Emma
another Emma
Gavin
Irene
Kiera
Maia
Zoe... lots of doubles...
Garrett
Michael
Sarah
That's 20 names and 20 people have a nice day."
The loudspeaker went off and a silence struck the assembled band of teens. They had only 3 weeks to live, tops. That was a lot.
"At least we won't die today" Kiera said, "We get last good byes." Silence...
"Cheer up everyone!" Ally said "Lets live our short lives to the fullest. No rip off of my wattpad story should stand in our way." "Look, some cards!" Thea exclaimed, "Let's play a game."
"Strip Poker?" Quinn asked only be received by a few awkward glances, "Okay, maybe I'll slow down on life to the fullest." They played non-strip poker until the breakfast arrived, biscuits and gravy.
"Too bad it's not doughnuts," Nate said, who got rather excited about doughnuts in any situation.
"Still not a bad way to go" Gavin said, tearing into a biscuit.
"Gravy is gross!" Yara said, "How do you eat so much of it"
"Might as well," Jack said, "Carpe diem. Any vegetarians should quit the act."
"Good idea," Emma said, and she slathered some gravy onto her biscuits. Conversation continued as if it was a normal meal in the school cafeteria, except a bit more YOLO. They talked and talked and talked until the day seemed to be over.
"Let's all head to the bedroom, It's getting late," the non-vegetarian Emma said through a loud yawn. The group moved together, nobody left behind or alone. They found that all they had packed was on their beds. Nate moved his next to Ceci's bed, the young couple didn't even have time to have a first kiss.
"Don't look while I change," Zoë said, taking off the hoodie she had been wearing.
"Who gives a fuck," Irene said, changing into her pajamas in the middle of the room. YOLO indeed.
They all got changed,
some more public than others
And stole of to bed,
Crawling under their covers
Ceci lay awake,
Under Nate's protective arm
Crying herself to sleep,
Being protected from harm
The lights went out,
Some tears were shed
for nonexistent futures,
And the dark road ahead
