The next day I wake up earlier than usual. Shouta had come in through the open window and was climbing all over me.
"Eh. Shouta leave me alone. I'm tired. Just five... more... minutes..." I manage to mumble before drifting back to sleep. Shouta must have given up because my sleep wasn't interrupted again.
After some dreaming time I finally open my eyes. The sun shines in from the windows and momentarily blinds me as I stretch and yawn.
"Man it's really sunny for morning." I stretch my left arm and hear a satisfying crack as my arm relaxes.
"Hmmm. That feels better. What time is it?" I ask myself, still not opening my eyes. I feel my hand across my bed to the nightstand with my books, headband, and alarm clock. After groping around for a few seconds my hands reach the familiar roughness of my alarm clock. It takes me a while, but I'm finally able to open my eyes. I stare at the time on the alarm clock before it registers in my brain.
"It's one o'clock..." I rub my eyes again, the foginess clearing up a bit.
"The heck?! It's one already?! Crap crap crap! I'm so late!" I hurry out of my bed, brush my teeth and hair, get dressed and head out all by one ten. That's gotta be some kind of record. At least for me.
During my hectic attempt to make it to the academy before it ends, I forget about Shouta and leave him sitting in my window. He must have given up and decided to join me in sleeping. At least I wasn't the only one.
Along my run to the academy I catch quite a few peoples' attention. I decide to take a shortcut through the people gathering along the streets. It should cut off about a minute.
"Ah, please move. Oops, sorry. Excuse me! Sorry, I'm sorry," I shout as I bump into pretty much everyone. You'd think they have enough common sense to move out of the way.
Once I clear the obstacle of people there is a a stretch of dirt path that stands between me and my class. I'm almost there. I might make it in time to be put in a group. I run the distance and push through the doors to the school. When I arrive at my classroom I quickly slide open the door and the to an empty seat, not really caring that everyone had stopped what they were doing and were now watching me.
"Hello Katsu. It's nice to see you today. You made it just in time to be put into a group. Alright, let's start with team number one..." He continues on.
I breath a sigh of relief and slump back in my chair. Taking a glance at the seat next to me I see the poor guy who was unfortunate enough to be sitting next to me. He had on small circular glasses and a turtle neck jacket with spiky hair. I watch as bugs crawl in and out of his ears and around his hands. Interesting.
"Psst...." I hear someone whisper in my direction. I look around and see Naruto sitting a couple rows away. I smile and give a discreet wave. He returns it with a big smile. I knew he would make it. Somehow.
I start paying attention to the teams Iruka is reciting. I'm sure he practiced this a few thousand times. I chuckle and glance at Sasuke who is surrounded by girls once again. No matter what I need to be on his team, even if it means not being with Naruto.
At this time Iruka announces the last member of team nsix. Then starts with team seven, "Naruto Uzumaki..."
I wait in suspense along with Naruto.
"Sakura Haruno..."
Naruto jumps up and cheers while Sakura does the opposite and slams her head on the desk.
"Sasuke Uchiha..."
At this Naruto slams his head on the desk, Sakura cheers, and Sasuke sits pretending he feels nothing. Iruka let's the suspense go on. Please say my name, please say my name.
